Hi All

I have a 2000 Freelander - with factory fitted cd/radio and a cd changer under the passenger seat. Is there an easy connection for an mp3 player input? I am not scared about cutting a few wires and getting the soldering iron out.

Cheers
Mark

Without seeing the unit removed from the dash I would say you have a number of options.

First and easiest...use one of the cassette tape ----- i Pod headphone out adaptors.

Second.... Does the head set have a pair of line-in jacks? You can use these via a RCA leads...again from the headphones output jack on the I-Pod.

Another option is to get one the relatively cheap radio freq transmitters that send the music to the head set via the FM radio. I've had variable results with these depending on the type of car/i-pod/head set combination.

Failing these...it's time to up-grade the head set to find an i-pod compliant unit from SONY, Alpine etc that use USB or Blue Tooth conectivity.

Hope this helps.

Regards.

Streaky thanks but its an in dash radio CD player with an extra changer under the seat - so no tape player. And I've had a crap FM tranmitter before and wante to avoid this option.

I guess its time to remove the head unit and see what connections are available.

I also have a 2000 freelander except I have the cassette in dash and the cd shuttle under the passagers seat.

The only chance would be to disconnect the shuttle under the seat and use the leads that feed the main unit as the inputs for the mp3 player. My only thought is that I believe there is a signal from the main unit telling it to play from the shuttle. If the shuttle isnt there to communicate it might not see the input from the MP3. If you are going to replace the main unit if it doesnt work by all means cut away and give it a try.

If your cd shuttle is working I would like to take it off your hands.

Sorry the Mrs wants to keep the CD shuttle for now:mad:. She has trouble with hew ipod and it is constantly loosing her music and having to start again. Maybe things will change one the ipod is working properly and I have had time to back it up for her.

I'm thinking about making some sort of switch setup under the front seat so I can switch between the mp3 and changer. Having said that, It would be better to have the switch and mp3 in on the dash somewhere.

Best place either the small storage slot by the drivers right knee or maybe remove the ash tray or maybe the ash tray for the back seat between the two front seats.

For $150 approx you can buy a sony player for your vehicle that has mp3 player inputs. I am asking Santa for one. One of the big electronics stores either Harvey Norman or JB-HiFi had that price about 3 weeks ago.

My shuttle only works if the vehicle isnt moving....LOL otherwise it just skips.

Thanks for the advise.

The tools are in the container on the way from the UK, so I need them here before I really get stuck in!!!!

I had the same issues when I moved to the Rockingham area 13 months ago from Canada. I bough some tools here while I waited 3 months for my furniture to arrive.
Good luck...buy new tools...just something to get by till your good stuff arrives.
