Hi all,
I have a Australian No.5 Army trailer, which I have owned and used (with pride) for many years. The shockies have reached the end of their life now (the originals circa 1969, what an innings!) and I am having troubles identifying replacements. The originals are Armstrong model AT9 2080/1. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated :BigThumb:

Can't help with a brand/model, however if you take one off, what you need to find a replacement is the length when extended, length when compressed and the fixing types at each end.
With that information go to a reputable auto parts store and they should have a manufacturers catalogue that you can scan through to find an equivalent.
The other option is to ring the technical support of one of the manufacturers like Monroe in Adelaide who using the above data, will give you the part number to order from your local Monroe stockist.

Diana,
Many thanks for the reply. Does load come into the equation or is it just the physical perameters that determine the shockie? I did email Monroe but they have not replied, I will try phoning.
Cheers

Yes weight is a factor and will depend on the unladen weight of the trailer plus your usual loads.

G'day All, I have 3 of these trailers, 2 with shocks and from looking at them they bear a strong resemblance to early model VW front shocks, I have never tried to match them, but thats my thoughts on the matter, you never know cheers Dennis:angel:
PS Got lots of spares for them but no shocks!!

Thanks for the advise all, much appreciated.
Diana, I should have a NATO plug somewhere (if it has not been claimed by a anti-hoarding campaign by the wife). I will let you know if I find it.
Cheers,
Dave

I didn't realise no.5 had shocks!!!! Mine certainly doesn't and has no evidence of ever having any. So , do they or don't they?

I am using Old Man Emu shocks for a Suzuki Sierra on my RAEME trailer(The P/N is either OME 013 or 015. One is Pin/eye and the other is the req'd Eye/eye.). As Dinty said, the No5 wasn't originally fitted for shocks.
