County 110-What to do?

I'm thinking of buying a friends Dads old V8 County.It has a lot of km's on it but otherwise is in very good order.What are my options if the motor blows up?(I presently don't own a Landy and have another car I can use)Any suggestions would be great.What kind of costs are involved in motor rebuilding etc?

replace with another rover v8 - from a few hundred if you can do a lot of the work yourself to $10k for something pretty special

or upgrade to a 4BD1t and shake it to bits over the next millenia :) (only for the DIY I'd say - paying someone would cost too much)

I have just finished putting another motor in my county and has cost me about 3k for motor, frieght and a couple extras, all work done by myself. You can get another motor pretty cheap and quicker than rebuilding it yourself when you don't have all the tools and parts washers.

The old counties are a great truck, strong drive line great suspension, excellent in the bush and the V8's sound awesome in the bush echoing around mountains. Alot of the defender parts will fit and there are plenty of parts available. I'm in the process of putting one together as a shooting / paddock basher to keep my other good for desert trips.

That's the only thing I miss about my County since fitting the Isuzu Turbo.

That's pretty right, up to point. My red '86 Isuzu had the rattly back sliding windows while rijidij's '88 V8 was nice and tight... until his too went rattly BEFORE his Isuzu conversion. It just goes to show that while an Isuzu might rattle some parts a bit quicker (and it's only until the engine reaches operating temp that it's a bit uncouth) all Countys/Defenders back windows will succumb it's just a matter of how much you use them off-road:D
To answer you original question if the County is just your second car and you just want to do weekends away it would be cheaper to stick with the V8. If you find you enjoy touring a lot and want to do large outback trips perhaps think about looking at getting an Isuzu County. ;)
