View Full Version : Cheap D3 V8's

I have noticed that there are a few V8 D3's with low to medium mileage for sale on "Carsales" even some HSE models for around only $2-5000 dearer than base V6 petrol SE models of the same age. The closest SE TDV6 is one with 118k on it for $42k privately and another for $49 at Ritters.
As others have stated on the forum the V8 is more fuel efficient than the V6, so I'm exploring all options at the moment.
With the continuing disparity between diesel and ULP prices I might consider one of these ; would others consider the V8 instead of the V6 petrol version ??? Service cost wise; how does the V8 rate service wise against the V6 and the TDV6 ?

Another thing to remember is that the 09 D3 will probably be between %10 - %20 ? dearer with the Aus $ failing badly against the Euro unless L/R discount heavily to stay in the market. How do you think this will affect S/H prices ?

I would be very surprised if the '09 Discovery 3 is priced at a 20 - 30% increase over the '08 models.

Without being biased as I had the V8 ...but I have also noticed the price difference.....if I had to choose...would still go the V8. Jag motor versus old Ford engine. V8 grumble versus harsh V6.....mine averaged out at 13.2 km/ 100 with burbs and hwy driving. Servicing...couldnt imagine it being hugely different from the V8 and the V6. But.....having now had a diesel....and loving my V8....if I went back in time....I would have got the diesel. I filled up my D2 at 845kms today...thats a good 250-300kms more out of a tank than my V8..which is a once a week if that now fillup..compared to a twice a week in the V8. Would need to do the math as the V8 takes premium,

Thanks for picking up that % difference in price, I put the fall of value of the dollar not the expected rise in price'. I have edited my post to reflect this.

I recently did a detailed costing of petrol vs Diesel (I am a great fan of diesel engines) for a RRC that I hoping to build up in the new year. I was looking a doing a diesel conversion, but have now decided to leave the V8 in place - the total difference in running costs was $0.04 per kilometer. Given the disparity in secondhand prices between petrol and diesel D3s I would buy the best V8 I could find.
