I bought a new cheap desktop PC the other day - has a SATA II 250gb hardrive and a SATAII DVD burner. The motherboard has 2 SATA II outlets and one IDE outlet.

After buying this PC and setting it up - I thought I wouldn't mind putting in a spare sata 80gb HDD that I have to install the OS on leaving the 250gb drive for all my files.

However there are no spare Sata outlets on the MB. With the IDE system you can have a master and slave arrangement between a hdd and dvd burner on one cable. Is there a way of doing this with SATA? Alternatively is there an adapter I can get to allow the SATA DVD burner to operate from the IDE outlet.

Or - is my only choice to buy another IDE DVD burner and replace the SATA one I have.

I am not interested in sectioning the 250gb hard drive into two drives.

Thanks

Garry

you can buy pci sata controllers for under $50 that will allow 2 or 4 more drives depending on the model you buy.

Thanks - would be cheaper to get a IDE DVD burner from the markets - they are just on $30.

Cheers
