View Full Version : Puma Transmission guards

Folks - I'm going to place an order for one of these....
http://www.devon4x4.com/products_a/p1225c236/defender-2007-transmission-guard.html
Prices
Ordering
1=$288.62/unit
2=$236.26/unit
3=$205.04/unit
4=$210.15/unit
based on exchange rate (11th Dec 08) and no special freight deal

- I have sent Devon an email to see if we can sharpen up postage costs.
Anyone keen?
 * UPDATE *
As we have a number of takers, and from different states, we will need to place multiple orders to avoid import duty. Moreover, I am also going to organise a State by State order - to cut down on freigh costs... If however, there is only 1 order from a particular state, I can include them in another state group.
To avoid duty, the order needs to be under $1000.00 - or 4 units...
Ordering between 2 and 4 units is more economical than buying singularly, so further orders will
need to be within this number range.
So - we will have a nominated person (distributor) from each state order group to place the order...
I'll give it until mid next week (17th Dec) to see where these orders are at - then we can proceed.

Tim
I'm not sure about the fuel cooler guard - I'd need to check it's position and assess the risk of damage. Where on the chassis rail is it? Let's see if others want this too and if so we'll order some as well - I'll post a tally (for both items) on the first post. :)

Give me a list, Pete - I'll work out if it's cheaper. It's not cut and dried - as 4 transmission guards are actually more expensive than 3 (per unit) but ordering 5 is cheaper again! :confused:
So let me know what you want and I'll see if I can work it in.
PS - You don't need a new wheelbrace - I will get it to you! :p

Just to let you know, If you speak to them they may well be able to do a better deal than the website is giving you for postage. They generally always beat that when I order stuff.

The fuel cooler is on the inside of the left hand (passenger side) chassis rail. I don't think its particularly vunerable, but I'd hate to poke a stick through it! Have a look at yours and see if you think it's worth it.

Scallops put me down for one too and also the fuel cooler guard if you are going ahead with it. I agree though it is pretty well protected. Also covering it may prevent airflow around the unit.
The only issue is the P&H from you to me in Australia will add to the cost if the weight is several kg's.
Just remember we need to keep the order under A$1,000 or might get stung with duty

That is a good point - $1000.00 is the max per order to avoid import duty - so - first in best dressed - then, if demand is there, we can always place another order.

Yep - was thinking that - and am happy to do so, but it would make sense that NSW orders be placed together and be put in by someone from NSW - to avoid extra interstate freight.

Just placed the Qld order via fax - the total for 3 units delivered was 212.03 pounds.
On today's exchange rate - that is $485.38 - so $161.79 each.
This is approximately half the price we'd have paid for a single unit - so we've done very well. :)
I'll PM my Qld order persons once my CC has been charged, and give you the exact final price and payment details.

OK - The WA and Qld orders have been placed. The Qld order was a little cheaper due to freight to Perth - the stuff must arrive on the eastern seaboard.
Mahn - for your NSW order (if it hasn't been placed yet)...
When you get your estimate, if it contains VAT, ignore it and pay the amount without VAT.
You pay using Paypal to the following email address...
websales@devon4x4.com
A day or so later they will reply to tell you the order will not be shipped until the 2nd week in January.
Once you receive your order, contact Boots (from Adelaide) and sort out his delivery with him.
Thanks to everyone who got involved - the Qld order worked out at being $167.00 each - significantly cheaper than the $311.00 quoted for a single unit. :)

finally ftted mine, did not realsie it drains the tx box of oil so it pretty expensive to fit.

Failry simple, bolt up bracket to bracket at front (gx box mount) then undo three bolts on tx case and put in new ones, that bit tested me, refill box with oil. Took me a while as did not know oil was going to come out and bolts are not easy to fit.

Here's some more pictures of the installed transmission guard. I haven't done mine yet, these are from under muddymech's Puma at the Wandin last week end.
Thanks Ian for the feedback on the installation it all makes a lot more sense now!
