RR 2-door into a trailer

I'm picking up another 2 door next week for parts. its in pretty bad condition so would go the thew scrap heap when i have some parts off it. I was thinking when i'm done i might lop off the back in line with where the rear of the doors are and make a trailers to tow behind mine.

Has any one done this before, any tips and any idea if what the weight?

i know i'll have to brace up the chassis, make up some draw arms, fit a front cover to the body to close it in, sort out the brake system to work with the hitch and do some wiring.

I think it would look pretty good:cool: have the same set of wheels for spares and a extra diff if i ever broke a axle or center and a in built jerry can

Great Idea, I did the same with my SWB rag-top, had another car for spares, cut the chassis, made a drawbar, had 2 spare tyres sitting on the drawbar flat against the bulkhead. didn't need brakes as it was under 750Kg (I think that was the requirement) I might have a photo, I'll see if I can find it....
You could fit free-wheel hubs to the trailer to stop the diff centre turning while you drive, then you have a spare set of them too!!
but you will have to fill the diff with oil so the wheel bearings get oiled!

Or you could put front half shafts in....... or old bent axles cut down..... or even just a blank flange......... Or just take the diff out completely and make a tube like I did and keep the original springs etc...... Cheaper than $200+ for FWH and an extra 80 odd kilos for the weight of the diff.........

Personally, I wouldnt use the chassis either as it adds a fair amount of un needed weight that you have to tow around plus allow for when you need to put brakes on it........

I found a pic...... we had a 3way fridge in the trailer, when we stopped for the night, we would unhitch the trailer, park the car back-to-back with the trailer about 2 metres apart, then throw a tarp over the two to the ground on one side, and on poles the other side. we had two single mattresses that fit perfectly in SWB's with the tailgates down, It was really cosy:
