I am having a problem with my 300tdi fitted to my 81 2 door. Basically it will not rev past aprox. 2500rpm try to go further ad all that happens is a lot of hesitation and sputtering. Itstarts and idles OK and once I back off the throttle it runs well again, till I accelerate up again. Any thoughts?
Thanks.

:DCould also be injector pump timing or throttle cable adjustment, blocked fuel filter, crushed line and thats before you start on the injector pump.
Too many possabilities for on here unless you give us a very detailed description then someone may be able to pin point it.
Try having alook at what we have said here and see if any of those things are out, I would start with Rangiemans suggestions and work through changing filters and cleaning sediment bowl through to checking your timing belt is spot on.

I had a very similar issue with my diesel RR and blowing out the fuel lines with compressed air fixed in instantly.

My money is on throttle cable adjustment, been there before with a 300tdi they are prone to it.

I first checked air filt. OK
adj. throttle cable, was a bit loose
Cleaned sediment bowl with car running, opened fuel filt bowl, good fuel flow, opened bolt on top of fuel filt. good fuel flow, reved engine went to 3200 easy, took for test run reved out OK to 3500.
Turned back home tried another rev up started stutter again.
Back home with engine running opened fuel filt bowl no fuel flow, opened top bolt again no flow. Left car idle for a while still no flow and stutter back.
Poss. blocked filt? Filt. only changed 2000km. ago.
