View Full Version : Clear exterior lights.

I like the idea of changing the exterior lights (indicator, driving light etc) for clear lenses and having the actual lights themselves provide the colour.

What options are there ?

I;d prefer an LED option if that were available - should be brighter and no need to chnage bulbs etc).

Anyone that has done this ?

I am sure you can get coloured LED bulbs that fit, and the lenses are available in clear. I am equally sure that this approach is not legal, because the LED bulbs do not have the same directional characteristics as the originals.
It is probably possible to get coloured conventional filament bulbs which would be legal, but might take a while to find.
The most satisfactory solution is probably to fit new LED lights, but the problem here is that round ones which would fit in seem to be fairly hard to come by, and are also expensive.

thought very few led bulbs are adr compliant unless something changed very recently.
complete light assemblies are a different story....

clear lenses and coloured normal bulbs are available no woriies... most car accessories places sell the bulbs and the clears you can get from mr and the like.
how adr compliant you are is another story i cant answer.
had em on mine and had to take them off to get roadworthy...

The Defender TD5 was brought out in the UK with clear lenses all round (except tails of course). This has now been done in Australia with the Puma. All parts are available through the stealers.

LED the way to go..
All my inside lights are LED.
BUT:twisted:
White indicator, NO-WAY, never.
Me I hate them, so hard to see when driving.
Had some near misses, with them.

I put clear side indicators on the 110. It flashes orange.

I am pretty sure they are a TD5 Diso style indicator. Same profile orange colour indicator was fitted to the Extremes.

I had to digrind the hole to get them to fit before doing the re-spray. You would need to do the same for a 300tdi.

The cost from Southside Landrover when they did parts was about $15 each.

WHY?

If it isn't broken why bling it.

I reckon the money would be better spent on Chris Cringle or a Gold AULRO charity of your choice.

The lenses are cracked and faded (one is half white anyway).
So it is broke, and I figured I might as well go for a slightly 'unique' look as opposed to standard.
Why ?
Why not !

it would be a nice look, but not unique as like i said all the puma's are clear on the front
still i reckon you should do it vlad.......it will be enough of a difference you will feel like you have a new car just because of a relativley in expensive face lift

Just stick the front one's off a Puma on to the rear as well. I've been tempted to do this but I keep buying other accessories instead:cool:

I have them but would agree with the others that changing them is not worth the effort. You will currently have a neat round hold in the guard with two screw holes. To fit the new style indicator you need to file out the hole so it mostly fits inside the guard. You also need to change the connection as the plug on the new indicators is different.

I thought of doing this as my coloured lenses fade after a few years and the clear ones don't. But I went and bought coloured ones again, I can't remember why. I also put LED bulbs in the indicators to stop the trailer light flashing. I put LED stop tails in my bike but there is not a big difference in brightness between stop and tail.

really I was pretty sure the clears are a straight swap! we had to file out our holes but that was becasue we fit NAS lights and they are much bigger than the original light

yep the 300tdi side indicators are similar to the early 110 indicators in that they screw to the outside of the guard. The later Extreme indicators sit more flush with the guard and so the indicator sits partly inside the guard and clip in rather than screw in. The result is you have a hole slightly smaller than the outer edge of the lense instead of a neat hole about 15mm diameter.

oh you talking about the ones on the side literally not the ones on the side in the front near the head light :)
