View Full Version : What do you call your landrover...

Hi All,
Being an owner of a V25 Custom when I first got my L's, then upgrading to a VT750 (after 12 months), then a Shadow Sabre 1100 (for more power!!!) (motorbikes for those that don't know what I am on about).... plus having a 3 door proton hatch, I NEVER had a name for my 'machines'... now that I have a Land Rover... I do - Landy Princess.... Odd that I have given HER a name...
Reason why.... i'm not a princess at all!

So - do you call your landrover a HER or a HIM? What name have you given to your Land Rover and WHY?

--- Not sure if this is posted in the right area, but I am sure the mods will move it if not! -----

Cheers,
Lp

I have a S1 Discovery and it got named Lyndesay Dorothella (so definitely a girl - she has expensive taste at times...) and was named as such for no real reason at all. It just seemed to suit when it was mentioned during brainstorming!

A recently acquired ex-army '69 IIA 109" GS is yet to be named, but I'm sure a name will be chosen soon enough when one seems to just fit!

My old man had an 87 Rangie that he called Pig Dog, so I called my S1 Disco Bush Pig, always trying to catch me plus my rover is loud and always dirty. Seems to suit it well.

Mine is Humphrey, on account of the hump on the roof, and the fact that I was going for a Camel Trophy look ... camel, hump, see?
It's kind of an English name as well, and the Disco is very much a Pommie car so it's apt.
Almost called it Humpty (as in Dumpty) when it fell off the trail shortly after I did the sandglow paint job, but a neighbour already has a Citroen 2CV that is named that, and actually has the name plastered on it in 6inch letters.

PSi, much damage to Humpty after his "roll over, play dead"?

Hardly any. Couple of small dings that are more proud battle scars than anything else. See those 2 small trees to upper right of pic in my first post? They sort of lay down slowly when Humphrey/Humpty leaned on them so it was a very slow-motion roll. Biggest damage was to my ego but that has healed too.
As you can see from 1st pic, the left side is all square now.

The recovery required 3 other vehicles with winches but accomplished in under an hour, and I drove him home, 70km away.

The rescue ...

Fired up immediately, albeit with a big cloud coming out the exhaust.

The damage - dent ahead of snorkel and on roof above B-pillar.

Just to pick up on waynep's reply, ours is normally just the "disco", except for at the moment where it needs the auto gearbox replaced and now it's called by swmbo as the "f%^$#*&^%$%$%$ big black hole of finances....%$@$%%@$%.

Cheers

mine has no name by me, although i call it the truck all the time

she calls it a

s h i t b o x.

her favourite statement when travelling in it when it decides to do a disco thing is:

'your car's a ****box'

it is said with such feeling that i get very sad and feel miserable for ages after.

anyway it may just turn around with her new car,

not telling.

i might get in trouble for calling it a -

let's just say it's a highly strung european mechanical powerhouse that needs massaging to keep it in fine fettle,
not like her old merc, the 450 is a tough truck and doesnt need to have it's bum and nose wiped before it leaves home, and still does over the old ton.

and 'aint got plastic engine bits!

like who in their right mind would build a car with a plastic dipstick tube and then turbocharge the engine?
and build an engine that has a belt driven cam shaft, well two really, and when the belt breaks it stuffs the engine - an interference engine they call it!

anyway we are off topic.
grumble over.

should i turn the 450 into a rally car? if i can't sell it.
wanna buy a fast classic?

My 95 300tdi D1 is named The Ross.

This came about when we found him on the side of the road for sale, and my girlfriend yelled out "Its a ROSS!" with joy. Apparently one of her friend's parents used to own a Rossignol model Disco with the same nickname, but it wasnt around anymore. So when I eventually bought my Disco, it was affectionately dubbed Ross.

So its always: "lets take the Ross!", "can i drive the Ross?", it's in the Ross", and "poor Rossy!" when he gets stuck or has a problem. Good times.
