Have a D2 which is fitted with an X brake which is a disc hand brake.

OK, first time I have driven it in 7 months :p

When the hand brake is applied the engine note cahnges to a much deeper note. Take hand brake off and the engine note becomes quieter again. This is with gear box in neutral.

So is it just the disc of handbrake vibrating due to vibrations going down the prop shaft or something more serious that is occurring?

Personally I would have thought that purely the action of putting the brake on allows the noise and any vibrations to be transmitted through to the cab, via the handbrake caliper/cable/handle.

That is what I think. Must admit never noticed it before! Amazing what you notice when you jump into a different vehicle

Thanks
