Just wondered what people used. I had a TJM full cage rack but sold it as it was too heavy & chewed up th fuel. I want to get a set of racks & a cage so I can use them in muliple ways inc. leaving them off when not needed. Autobahn have 20% off at the moment & I am contemplating getting a set of Rhinos with the slim line alloy bars. It seems hard to find a lot of alternatives for a Disco 'cause of that bloody high roof. The second-hand market is pretty scarce. Any thoughts appreciated. :)

I have a pair of Rhino's and a home made mesh basket and i find them a good alternative to a half/ full length rack . I usually leave mine on over summer as i often make trips to the hardware store and come back with 4m lengths of stuff.

Maybe a bit far away, but maybe the courier system could help.

British Patriot Roofracks are the best Ive come across (including Rhino)..
Patriot Roof Racks - Home (http://www.patriotroofracks.co.uk)
Weve shipped a few to NZ, Jamaica - Shipping costs aren't cheap but not that prohibitive either.

I just bought a Hannibal. They look very similar to the Patriots. Jon can probably jump in here and explain the differences to everyone. The Hannibal is very well made and whilst I've only had it for a week it seems just what I need. I don't know what the Hannibal is like for the Disco, but I suspect its still a flat roof rack.

I've been wanting to get a set of Rhino racks for ages. After you posted on here that auto bahn had 20% off I went straight down and got them. I got the Aero bar model you were talking about. Will get the aluminium basket in the future (maybe next time they're on special), but the three bars will do for now to put the oztent and quick shade up on top. Cheers for the heads up.

The gutter mounted ones are rated to 100kg per pair, but you need to go by the vehicle manufaturers specifications as to what they can hold. I'm not sure what that is at this point in time, but you also need to take into consideration that each roof rack weighs 5kg too.

Rhino bars are rated at 75kg on a defender, but I think that reflects the manufacturers rating - It's not until you actually select a vehicle type that you get to see the rating, if you just pick a set of bars then the rating isn't given.

I ended up getting a pair for $260 & will now look for a 2nd hand basket. I only store the light bulky stuff up top so its not a problem. I think my TJM full rack exceeded the weight limit on its own unloaded . Good luck with it.
