DISCO flat battery

Hi all
Just wondering has anybody come across a flat battery in there 300 tdi Disco if the vehicle has not been used for 5 or 6 days.

Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas & here is a cheers for 2009.

YEH the battery is only 3 months old, tried the other batery out of the Defender & it went flat after a couple of days. Thanks all the same guys.

Put a multimeter across the battery terminals and see what sort of amperage draw is present. Then diconnect things until you can isolate it.

Sounds to me like you have something drawing current when the car is turned off...

Have you got any accessories wired in that are not dependent on ignition for power?

If it happens to 2 separate batteries.. either you have a charging problem.. or there is something draining them when turned off.

Yep, I also agree there must be something draining it.

I have left my D1 V8 for 4 weeks and come back and it has still fired up.

Hi again Bob,

Try disconnecting the alternator main battery wire from the alternator, and see if it happens again, or do as Pete suggests and hook a multimeter inline and set it to amps, should get a reading if there is any drain to earth. Sometimes the rectifier will leak to earth and drain the battery in a matter of days.

I think you meant this : disconnect the + cable from the terminal, then put the multimeter, set for amps mode, in series between the + terminal and the + cable. The red + lead of the meter goes to the + battery terminal, the black meter lead goes to the disconnected +battery cable. Set it to the highest amp range for a start, then to lower settings. There should not be more than a few milliamps being drawn.

Warning : don't try to turn over the engine with your multimeter connected in this manner, this will fry your meter.

Putting the mutimeter across the + and - terminals in amperage mode will also fry your meter (it's effectively a short circuit.)
