I am currently rebuilding my 95 300tdi front end and have a question regarding the stub axle. What is the easiest way to remove thrust ring oil seal and bearing, in the book its uses a special tool but im sure there is a diy way. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Shano.

Using a thin long punch from the outside will move the needle roller bearing, the seal will act as a shield to prevent damage/ distortion of the bearing.

if your going to put a new bearing in keep the old one, give it some gentle love with an angle grinder to knock about .5mm off of its radius and then braze it onto the end of some decent metal work (I use some box steel with a rod welded vertically to it) to make a placing punch.
