I know that alloys need special wheel studs marked with a triangle but I do not know where to get them. Any ideas?

Mt 81 does not have them.

Mt 81 does not have them. You will also find that Vogue alloys don't fit onto your 1981 hubs. The hole in the Vogue alloy's centre is too small for your hubs, you need to fit the hubs off a phase II Range Rover. (1985 and later)

The easiest solution is to get the whole axle assemblies from a later car.

My 1982 RRC had the later differential housings with the drain plug off to the side and a flat bottom, and it had studs with a slot stamped in the end, and AFAIR these were also safe to fit alloys to. Is this true Diana?

...I certainly hope so:o

That's what my Sept 84 (Phase 2 release) has and it came std with alloys.

I can't be sure of this one, however I do know that the Vogue alloys don't fit onto the hubs of most 2 doors and early 4 doors (early assemblies) I know because I tried recently to fit my spare set of 1985 alloys onto a vehicle I am about to wreck so I could sell the 16 X 8" BWA alloys currently sitting on it.

That and another friend was attempting to build a 2 door into a Vogue with EFI using the trim and engine from an '89. when he tried to upgrade the hubs it was a nightmare with the bits that had to be changed to fit the later hubs and therefore brakes.

I think the HUB problem as opposed to the stud problem is just that the axle end is too big to let the wheel get onto the hub.
I found this when I fitted Disco wheels to my 77.
The answer is get out the grinder and grind down the axle ends until they are the same size or smaller than the hub.
This worked for Disco wheels but you would have to try mags.

Had the same problem, only a slight clean up with the grinder required probably less than 1mm taken off.

On a older Rangie (83 I think) I had a while back I had to grind out about 2-3mm, make sure you do the spre or you may run into a bit of an issue if you have a flat tyre .

Phillip's suggestion was to take the grinder to the axles rather than the rims.
