In preparation for our upcoming bike ride, coupled with the fact it is a new year, I started punishing my body again.
Even though it was hot and humid enough in brissy to raise a sweat just by blinking, I managed to bang out a 5k run on the tready(goes to 10 tomorrow), a bit of work around the house, then grabbed the kids and went down to the local BMX track.
In all honesty I haven't been on any of my pushies for ages, times that by 1000 for properly. The old body was going WTF? We rode to the track and through the bush and mucked around. Talk about sweat.
The old beer gut limits the air you get, especially when you haven't done it in ages. Go on, have a good laugh.
I'm hitting the skate park tomorrow:eek:

Thanks weeds. At the moment my Land Rover is in bits as I'm doing a partial rewire following a small meltdown. Just in case I get mobile, does this ride have much single track or is it mostly fire road?

Yup, more cheating:D
Have put in at least 7.5k run per day on the treadie getting the pace up quicker each time. I can feel the beer sweating out of me:(
Hung out with my peeps at the local skate park. Need to wear better undies and drop my pants round my knees. Havn't done this in years so don't get too excited.

Hey Dave, we're doing Gap Creek on Sunday afternoon from about 2.30 as a prep for the next weekend, and as you're probably aware this has lots of single track, just missing some of the tree cover following the Nov/Dec storms

Will try to make it - are you meeting at the Gap Ck Road carpark? I am still rewiring part of my County so it will depend on getting it finished. Or I might be able to talk another Land Rover owning/mountain biking mate into coming. I just hope you guys can stand the sight of a grown man hurling his guts up at the top of each hill.
By the way Guy, you own one of my all time dream cars. I always wanted an early GT.

Meeting at the Gap Creek Rd Carpark - sounds like you'll fit in just fine, our rides a fairly laid back - well they have to wait for me to catch up, which gives the faster ones a chance to catch their breath while wondering when I'm going to appear:cool:
Just a nice cruisy afternoon ride:twisted: unlike clear mountain last weekend:eek:

It was always going to be silly. Lets see. Prizes for longest wheelie, best stack, biggest stoppie, most retarted stunt:D:D:D

From a kid, riding was my thing, but we were so poor we had to get Mcdonalds on Lay-buy, so a proper bmx and bikes had to wait until I was old enough to buy them. Buy then I had moved on to motorbikes. After losing my licence for 12 months doing something similar to another recently posted thread, I rediscovered riding at 23.
Got mega fit again, and started learning to get air and the like. My BIL and his wife a into MTB and Road big time so we all went together. I have been slack lately, and the last time I bought stuff was 5 years ago, and the last time I rode was about 3 years ago.
Apart from fitness, it all comes back pretty quickly. The hardest part I find is getting past your head, to do that first drop in or box jump and staying relaxed so you don't freeze up and bin it. Even worse with all the teenage heroes hanging around, don't want to look stupid. From then it is all practice.
Aren't you coming up this way to Dave's soon?

Jury still out on this one, but I'm trying. If my new cc lid turns up in time, and some other bits, I'll be there.

Sadly I'm out for this one. Went through a barbed wire fence head first yesterday at Bunya and feel a little the worse for wear....

Didn't make it to the training ride at Gap creek, instead spent the afternoon riding with my son. There is something about doing that first bush ride together:D:D:D:D
We hit the BMX track, then went off to the quarry, and finally the wetlands near our house.
I bought a new camera recently, so am playing with the functions, the other main reason for this thread

Hey CC, Are there any decent single tracks down in your area? Like 4wding always on the lookout for new places to ride
That last photo looks good.

Not really. There are isolated patches of bush, but no real hills. There was a good but short technical track, bordering on trials stuff, along the esplanade at lota, but I think the stuffed it by adding a boardwalk.
Ok skatepark, good bmx track.
I'm hoping to hit Ironbark again reguarly, as well as the pony trails, clear mountain and such. Have done Glorious and nebo as there are alot of fun trails to explore.
That last pic is stitched in the camera. It has 3 methods of panorama. Should have used the first one as I was doing it freehand. It's OK.
Where are yours from your ride today?

Ironbark was/is pretty much stuffed up in the storms from late last year. I think its slowly being cleared but the place looks majorly different. The gully run at the Ferny Grove end is very messy.
Others may have photos from todays ride, we created a log ramp over a fallen tree:twisted: which I chose not to ride. If Mrs Ho Har was there she would have suggested to take the easier option - so I did:p. But our normal camera man wasn't riding today.
