What percentage of Aussie Discovery's are diesel - it seems as if you're top heavy with diesel engines whereas the USA has dino juice (gasoline) :)

I run a 300Tdi Discovery and i love it great fuel economy plenty of torque for the hard work, and less dramas with the environments such as water! :)

Less electronics and far more reliable a diesel will run for a fa longer time :)

Its probably got something to do with the price of the fuels?!

Don't think fuel price enters into it much, diesel was the same price as petrol untill like last year, when now its 20-30 cents per litre more. Sure my range is only like 500km in the V8, but i love the noise and the effortless power of it.

Most of the city drivers that got their car as part of a salary package for work went the V8. The ones owned privately from new are probably 50:50. A lot of the go harder bush bashers pick up cheap V8 discos (ex-lease, getting long in the tooth) for bush bashing. But for the long distance outback touring diesel are preferred.

I noticed that Diesel became more expensive than petrol about 6 months after I bought my Disco2, which was April 2001.

I bought the diesel for running cost (at the time) but also the range that it had. With the long range tank even my lard ass lump will drive about 1100km on the highway on a tank of fuel.
