I am looking for a suitable place to mount my new CB radio (xmas present from my misses... god bless her) and was thinking about cutting a hole through the centre console in my 2005 90 in the location were the old swivel ashtray used to be just below the din mounting spot for the existing radio. I have my work supplied Nokia CK7W Bluetooth kit in this space as well behind the dashboard but before I disassemble the dash has anyone out there done this or any sensible alternative location for the radio?

I've mounted mine on the front of the cubby box, it fills the space just in between the cubby box and the low range lever.
I did it here originally as a temporary spot until I got an overhead console but I now really like it in that position, it's really easy to use without reaching or taking your eyes off the road.

I made an over head consol. the idea came from YT who had purchased one ( im to cheep), hanging off brackets where the sun visors were and bolted though above the door frames, also put the CD player iPod and a couple of speakers ( Isuzu need the speakers in your face) plus an bigger speaker for the CB. Still leaves room for maps etc etc

G’day all,
Try this ‘General Forums – General Chat – Dashboard center Console’. It may fit the bill? I’d like to try and invert one and stick it on the roof???
Dullbird,
Did you buy an overhead console or did you make it yourself? If you bought one, what type was it?

x2 Its also a nice and easy spot to wire up the power as the batteries arent far away.

I'd go for on the front of the cubby box - except for me that's where the Nanocom lives (2006 Defender 110). I've looked at this as well, and decided my options ere either:
to mount it on the side of the console, although space is a bit tight there;
or down on the transmission tunnel, which is low and more likely to get knocked about.
Originally I thought that the blank spot beneath the radio would have been great, well, that was until I saw just how much needed to be taken apart to get at the area properly.

Mine is mounted under the hood lining. the bracket mounts to the roof support and the hhod lining rests against the bottom of it. just cut a hole for the speaker and put a old speaker cover over the hole. works a treat if yours is detachable face. mines a gme electraphone tx3400.

You haven't actually stated which model UHF (is it UHF?) you got so I am assuming it is one of the fairly common 1/2 DIN type units.

Mine is mounted on the side of the cubby box filling the small gap between it and the driver's seat. Hardly visible through the driver's window so less obvious to thieves. I have the handset hung on the sloping front of the cubby. The only catch is that with the display turned sideways, you can't see it with polarising specs on! But since it mostly only ever stays on one channel, not much of a problem.

Note: this spot won't work if you are a man of ample girth who more than fills their seat.

Many thanks to you all - seems to me that overhead might be an option (will remove headlining to check as I dont have a sunroof) or the cubby box option - I'll post photo when its done next week.

I have a GME detachable face UHF radio. I mounted the main radio under the centre console. The face is mounted underneath the radio. Works well for me, and I had to put a speaker on the dash so I could hear it.
Cheers,

I mounted my cb on the front of my console on the slope didn't drill no holes just put a bit of Sikaflex on the bottom of the cb so if you want to move it there are no holes there, it is easy to see and use and the mike can be mounted close to it and you don't have far to wire it up, mine has been this way for 1year now and it works very well for me and hasn't moved as Sikaflex works very good, I also have a speacker close by and have no worries about hearing it, hope this helps...Ashley
