Well after many years without one I have re-joined the ranks of series owners and bought myself another 1971 Series 2a 88" :D.

This one I found on ebay. Nice and clean. Very original from what I can tell. 2.25 diesel engine and not a spot of rust anywhere (other than a bit of surface rust)

I flew over to Adelaide yesterday to pick her up and I drove her all the way home, getting back here at close to 10:00pm last night. My ears are still ringing!:D:twisted:

Vehicle is originally from Broken hill area before moving to South Australia and now Victoria.
She'll have a quiet life with me just doing the drive to work, the odd run here and there and to hut build projects now and then. She is very much in retirement from any rough stuff.

With shorties becoming harder and harder to find, especially Late 2A's, I was glad to find one in such good original condition.

Some pics......

Not sure what I'm doing wrong.....pic's dont show as a thumbnail? Oh well......

So the plans for this vehicle are to keep it very much in it's current original condition. I'll rebuild the front end and replace all the wheel bearings, brakes etc. Some new springs and shocks too. The motor is a little smokey and the front crank seal is leaking pretty badly so I'll have to do something there too.
Otherwise she looks pretty good.

I've really missed having an old series model. Feels like home again.:)

That bulkhead looks like it was made yesterday!

Having just repaired one of these for Tommy K, I can say make sure that you drench every seem from the top down with some sort of preservative e.g. Ballistol; Lanox; Fishoilene, etc.

Every seam on Tommy's had rust either well-advanced, or starting in it.

Nice find! :D

Cheers Charlie

Looks good Mick

Yeah put some Fishoilene in one of those hand pump spray bottles, thin it down with a bit of turps and spray it on every bit of rust you can see. you can also fog it into any holes in the chassis, up in the guards etc.
Good thing its non permanent so you can remove it when you decide what final paint you are going to give it.

Smells at bit at first but soone goes away.

~ $60 for 4 litres at Bunnings.

G'day D110V8D :)

Just had a look at the pics of your new vehicle, a late "G" chassis 88" and I noted that it has a syncro gearbox by the almost straight gearlever and it's in wonderful condition :)

cheers

Thanks everyone.:)

Uncle Ho, the gearbox is a 2a (no synchro on 1st and 2nd) the gear lever has the 2 "kinks" in it. Bit hard to make out in the pics 'cause it has a piece of foam over the gear lever. ;):D
