been back into fishing the last few weeks, went up to myall lakes for the last 4 days, got a 10ft tinny fished a few spots in the river and done no good, anyway my question, i want to go out in lake maqurie this week in the arvos, bloke while away siggested going to a spot days before fishing and loading the area with berley(bread, kitty litter and chicken gut) whats your 2 cents worth what do you think i should do

Next time I go to Cape Riche fishing with Graz Im going to take a mincer each and feed the slimy cod and wrasse thru it:twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted:Onc e they are half way in it would hold them securely whilst the hooks are removed.

My mate soaks rocks in a liquid he gets from the fishing store for a few days in a bucket, goes out late in the arvo and records the spot on his GPS then scatters the rocks close around the boat the day before, he said the trick is no matter what you bait with constantly bait the same area to teach the fish to go to that spot.

If in doubt talk to the guys in the fishing store that actually bait an area, not the guys that have a friend who knows a guy .... yada, yada

This is exactly what we do in the UK when fishing for Carp. I've known guys go to a spot every morning on their way to work, then fish that spot all weekend. Its a bummer if you turn up with the rods and find someone else there though!!!!

that sounds like a good idea i was thinking heshon bag or something like that and tie a brick to it and float a marker so i can retrive it dont wana be putting **** in the lake only thing with leavin a marker is exactly that

as all i can say is your probably better of going somewere else other than lake macquarie me and my old man fish there at least once a month for the last 4 years and the only thing that takes us back there is because it is the closest place to go other than that it isnt that great (even though they have stoped pro fishing in the lake it is simply just flogged out) we went there just the other day and i must say i did hook up on a nice sized flatty on a soft plastic got him to the boat and "half" into the net and busted the line and sliped out the net (i know i know fishing tales once again) but we estimated about 80-85cm but that was the only fish for the whole of 2008 that was worth talking about that came from the lake.we hav also been known to spend at least 17-20 hours out on the lake in the hope of catching a feed and still came home with no fish so if you ask me its only good to fill in some time! but yes berlying up a spot may do the trick i would suggest a mix of some pilchards choped up (small pieces) , bread , chiken pellets and some tuna oil over the top that seems to be pretty good (once again we are talking about the lake so nothing is gaurenteed) and just remember the lake can be extremely dangerous (take extra care if a southerly starts to blow) dobel park side of wangi is about the worst boat ramp when a southerly starts and we are usually in a 5.2m boat and we have found it dangerous! if your looking for bream there is also another bait you can try and that is chiken breast cut into strips and also try floating baits if your using berly. anyways i would asume you are sick of reading this so have some fun fishing and stay safe!

well i went out to the dropover again the sarvo and still done no good, been talkin to a few people about soft plastics, what do i use there is mainly bream, flathead and whiting where i go and prawns, fisho, worms and pilchard are not bringing any home so whats the go with plastics

well at presant the prawns havent been doing any good as bait because the prawn season is now wich means they will be almost sick of prawns as we hav found out after fishing numerous hours up the river last weekend! um well soft plastics you can use the ones that already have a lead head in them (just tie on and of you go) or you can get the ones that you need to buy the jig heads(lead heads) for them and thredal them onto the jighead.if your chasing bream i would go something anywere from about 1inch long to about 3inches long i have herd that pumpkinseed coloured berkley gulp minnows are pretty good but i havent opened my packet of them yet! um if your chasing whiting try believe it or not poppers of some description but only in shallow water eg sand flats over near the dropover, another good plastic is i forget what u call them but they are about 10-15cm long blood worm soft plastic they come in mainly 2 colours bright red or a greeny colour they just look like a thin long worm they work on almost anything. um if your searching for flathead try some (once again i forget the name of them)stunami(brand) paddle tailed poddy mullet looking lure they come with a red coloured head , greeny coloured , see through (glittery coloured) , and a browny coloured one they are about 2-2.5 inches long with a paddle tail (they are the ones that are already got the hook/jighead in them so they are ready to hook on and go) if everything fails there is one more option but it will take some time and driving but the chances of you getting at least something is pretty good and that is watch for were any birds are working the water (by that i mean seagulls etc etc in a big flock over the water in one little patch they are usually hovering around) try and find them and drive up to them very slowly then cut the engine out and just glide into were they are working you then will have to cast into them with one of your selected lures (note if you use a soft plastic around these tailor they will chop it to pieces so you may get 1 cast out of one or you might get 20 or 30 thats if they are there) the best bet is to use a good old wonder wobbler (very common most servos/small bait places will probbaly hav them) that will be about the best for the tailor you should get at least 1 fish and it should be over legal(but also remember they are feeding so you might get a few hits and then the school would hav moved on and you will have to chase them again) try this half way between wangi point and pulbah island they are usually around that area somewere.the last thing i can point out is just remember when you are driving somewere (in your boat of course) you can utilise your time and chances by trolling lures (hard bodied bibbed lures also know as deep or shallow divers) or by trolling metal lures (dont drive to fast and just keep varying your speed every now and then) anyways im of to watch a movie i hope i have helped um have fun and stay safe

thanks heaps for that, went out near pulbah last weekend had heaps of little ones but nothing worth keeping, was out near the sand flats the sarvo chasing the birds, had a school of baitfish go under me had prawns in and a shinny metal lure and done no good, need to get me some plastics

oh i see well thats strange they usually go for metal lures! um yeah those sand flats look like a very good spot but i havent hooked up on anything descent there yet. but all reports i hav been hearing hav been if you want whiting use popers on those sand flats but other than that maybe go upto one of the shallow sand flats and get out and walk along flicking soft plastics.the only other bait i can suggest is tube worms you buy them live from tackle power or any know bait shop (toronto bait shop near the maccas there they should hav them) they catch almost anything but be warned they are very expensive like about $1 each but they are pretty good (probably better using a bit of mullet or something first to see weather or not the pickers are about so that you dont waste the tube worms. but probably better of going with those red blood worm soft plastics they are pretty good and you dont even hav to be that good at using lures tehy still atrack fish. even try a bottle squid might be worth a shot. if none of these work trust me its not you or i doing anything wrong it is probably just that there is no fish there after being flogged out over chrissy! keep up the hard work cheers!

hahahahahaha yes i knw our spelling is bad but it is quicker aftr sitting & typing 4 ages. well i hope u do gr8 fishing around pulbah u might get some flathead u never knw.
and wats this about ur teenager's spelling theres isnt anything wrong with my spelling considering im a teenager as well! u will probably find that she spells in slang because she has to write heaps at school so most ppl take shortcuts:D
