Clear the SRS Fault on '99 P38A

Looking for suggestions on how to clear the "Airbag fault" message on the LCD display and the red SRS light on the dash please? Also your experience with same/similar SRS faults and how you fixed them.

The previous owner (Hardy) had a Rovacom (but sold it before I bought his car) and it was indicating that the SRS had an "Open Circuit RHS" - seems to indicate the curtain airbag in the driver's seat?

Hardy reckoned this is a bit of a furfy error and had a go at fixing it but no joy. He changed the rotary coupling on the wheel as well as the wiring under the seat.

I've got the car booked in for a Blue Slip inspection tomorrow and I'm sure it is going to fail on this error alone. Unfortunately, removing the bulb behind the SRS light isn't going to do any good as the LCD message beeps as soon as the ignition is switched on.

Google has offered some mixed results. Even found an item on Rangerovers.net that quoted Hardy as having fixed the fault by squeezing the connector under the seat to complete the circuit. I'll try that in the morning before it goes off for its Blue Slip inspection.

Other artices talked about the SRS fault being triggered after a low battery, battery disconnect, jump start or a fault with the BeCM.

Most posts state that a TestBook is required to re-set the fault. I'm in the market for a FaultMate at the moment and hope that might also do the trick.

Even if the fault is fixed, the SRS fault message and light will stay until reset by Testbook or similar.

Most D2's will have the SRS light come on at some stage,,
and it IS fixed by literally squeezing the wiring connection under the seat and restarting.

my 2001 p38 was rear ended a few months back which resulted in the same
SRS Air Bag fault being present

to my dislike both the other drivers and my insurance refused to pay for
repair of the SRS Air Bag fault but at least they did replace the scratched plastic bumper with a new one

I had to then pay for my local LR dealer to diagnose and fix but they instead after working on the car for an hour came back saying that they would need to spend 8-20 hours to locate the cause

I was going to procede with legal action against my insurance after xmas\new year

however a few days ago In the process of refitting a dislodged cruise control brake switch to get better access to the lower panel screws I took the plastic cover off from around the steering column while there I pushed
all connectors together one of which made a loud click the next time I was driving I noted that the SRS red lamp and Air Bag display had cleared

A disconnected lead into the instrument pod on a P38A results in a logged fault of bulb failure in the dash. If LR had checked, they would have seen that fault logged. I had it on mine.

Sorry to hear about your prang. Seems that LR dealerships have varying degrees of competency. I had some good experiences with Trivett Classic in Parramatta but only pain with Rolfe in Canberra.

I hope/reckon you might be on to something with the steering colum. I know that the rotary coupling was replaced on mine a while ago. I'll pull the cowl off and have a fiddle with the connections. I've checked the connector under the seat and it seems ok.

Well timed thread! My DII SRS light came on the yesterday and stayed on (after coming on a few weeks ago and then going of after an ignition "cycle"). Is the connector under the seat obvious, or should I just squeeze all connectors and see what happens? Driver or passenger side? Checked the fuse next to the steering column and it is fine.

Would almost bet a testicle its the seat connectors,namely the right seat as it gets adjusted most.
Disconnect/clean/reconnect and it should be fixed.
Look for the yellow plugs under the chairs;);););)Worked for me twice:cool::cool::cool::cool:

All fixed! A bottle of water had rolled under the drivers seat and must have knocked it. A quick wiggle of the plug, not sure which one as it was dark and I was going by feel, didn't feel anything click back into place, but fired her up and no more SRS light.

Its a fun job to get the cowl off and not brake the clips that join it together.
