This morning I did a 100km trip in the County. By the time I got back, there was a very noticeable clank on bumps.
My initial diagnosis was a shock absorber bush gone. This turned out to be wrong - it is the bush on the back of the front radius arm. I have ordered a set, and should have them within a few days. In the meantime, I will have to take the 2a into town tomorrow. With a forecast of 37 it will at least be marginally cooler than today (39) - no aircon, and going into town I have to put the door tops back on!

Do you have a dog?

Why? Do you need to lock it?
Yes. All the main carparks in Dubbo have prominent signs - "Lock it or lose it", based on police experience.

Do you have a dog?
Yes, but she is only a little one, albeit so aggressive that if I took her into town I'd probably get booked for having a dangerous dog - she has already missed that marginally when she was with my granddaughter in Yass.

We passed through Dubbo a couple of days ago. It is quite a big town these days.

1. They are not tame!
2. There go the groceries!

And you will need an electric fence to keep them in.

That would probably keep the light fingered gentry out without the goat, but I have an idea they are illegal for use as car protection.

I have three hand raised bottle fed orphan kids (goat kids) you can borrow - they ARE tame! :o
My sister thought they were cute, and as a result we now have three goat shaped 'dogs' who invite themselves inside the house and all! :lol2:

Well, trip to town went OK, more comfortable than expected, owing to the overcast. 2a is running well, thanks partly to getting the ignition timing and spark plug gap right a couple of weeks ago. Cruises comfortably at 100kph, albeit a bit noisy, mainly tyres, wind and transfer case (and overdrive when used), plus assorted rattles. But compared to the County, the ride is rough with no load.
Waved to a late model Defender towing a trailer at the corner of Brisbane St and Newell Hwy as I was leaving Dubbo - anyone from here?

Glad you got a break in the weather. Just did the hospital run into Canberra in the Japero (No aircon) Pregnant wife enjoyed it not.

I still have a few rellies in Dubbo. Thet say there is a crime and bad behaviour problem associated with certain groups of residents in public housing. An elderly rellie there was in and out of hospital over a long period and during one of the prolonged stays her house was totally stripped of all possessions of any worth including the wood stove.

yes, Dubbo has grown big enough to have acquired most of the faults of city life with few of the advantages.

Getting back on topic, I am now rather disillusioned about Land Vehicle Spares. I ordered the parts from them on Tuesday, but with them not having arrived in today's mail, I rang to find out why.
They were only sent on Thursday, two days after the order. Sent by express post, which should be here by Monday, as it would probably have with ordinary post.
Not very happy.
Also not happy about the fact that I have found I have to remove my water tank to do the job - which means emptying it and removing the floor to get to the connections, and not helped by the fact that my next door neighbour has his cattle in one of the paddocks I drive through, well fed on lush green grass.

Well, I got the water tank out. Bolts encrusted with fresh cow manure over the EP90 from the pinion seal I replaced last service. The tank is a very neat fit, between the two outriggers at each end and the chassis and folding step sideways. Has to be fed in at just the right angle when reassembling.
And found the bush was not the problem! What has happened is that the fitting for the bush in the outrigger has broken away from the outrigger. It was only ever welded on the back of the outrigger, and when I checked the other side for problems I found that the other side is welded both front and back. Sounds as if it could be a manufacturing defect? Could somebody check their 90/110/Defender and let me know whether it is welded both sides of the outrigger or only the back.
I have repaired and welded it, and although my welding is not very good (very awkward position lying on your back working above your body), I think it is probably stronger than it was originally. Leaving the paint to dry overnight and will reassemble it tomorrow. This fault probably has been going for a while by the rust on most of the fractures, and explains a very slight wandering tendency I was unable to track down (there was only about an inch of the fracture that was unrusted) - I had just about decided it was imagination.
