I'm looking to upgrade from a D1 97 V8 to a DII td5. I've been looking at the 2003+ models until now, but wonder whether I should also be looking at the 01. I've found one for sale that has had the CDL sorted - are there any other upgrades in a DIIa that make it worth the extra $5k - $10k? I have test driven both in the past, and with the exception of nicer dash, couldn't see any great difference between the two other than the CDL. Apologies if this is rehashing old material, I couldn't find anything specific in other threads.

When the update model came out Rover said there were some 280 changes...275 were probably the flecks in the carpet:)

I have a mate with the update 03 and I have a last run 02 (rectangular lights) - both V8 manuals. Mine has 136,000 k and his 80,000k - his has had more problems despite being serviced the same and mine has done more offroading and mine tows a 2 tonn boat. Mine drives the same. His has CDL. Mine does not. His black dash is always looking like crap because the smallest bit of lint shows up. On the beach and in deep soft sand we both run 31 inch tyres and mine does it just as easy as his without CDL, but steep hills I suspect his would be a little better.

Dont know whether an 03 would be worth $5-$10K more than an 01. It would depend on alot of factors as even if they were the same color, condition and had the same km the newer one is always going to be worth more. How much more - what ever someone is willing to pay.
I upgraded from a 99 TD5 auto to an 03 V8 man (lpg) and love it. Just a little tighter and the factory CDL is primo! Headlights are heaps better too!
I would suggest getting the newest one you can aford. But also the best condition you can find. Not always as easy as it seems. Remember its a buyers market
Hope this helps?

The CDL is well worth it - however go for the car with the best service history & lowest km's you can afford.

I thought there were some 750 changes!

Some of the major changes are upgrade to ECU (more power) which can be flash upgraded (other models need ECU replaced for upgrade), slightly larger intercooler, changes to the EGR system and fixes for some of the more common niggles.

I've had more joy out of my 04 than out of my 01 (which was traded in due to all the hassles I had with it.

Cheers,

Franz

I could be wrong... but i think the updates are less susceptible to the dreaded 3 amigos dramas too.

I upgraded recently from a 2000 model V8 to a late 2003 TD5 which I've chipped...

If I had the choice again I'd definitely go the update.

That said...service history, service history, service history!.... go for the one you can afford that has been looked after correctly.

Good luck with it...

Mark

PS.. Yes Pedro.. you can get a 2a for $5,000 - $10,000 more that a 2001.. lots around.
