Hi, I drove from Perth to Albany last Saturday (travelled in daylight hours) & was amazed at the number of bug’s that I collected on the front of my car & windscreen so that got me thinking about the most effective insect screen for the radiator of my D2.
What is best?, fly screen or shade cloth if shade cloth what weave is the best balance between air flow & stopping bugs? Is there an off the shelf product I can buy? & is it better to fit it over the front of the grill or between the grill and radiator.
Regards

I have been running flyscreen and before that shade cloth, on all of my cars for at least 18 years. I have had no over-heating problems at all and no bugs getting into the condenser and radiator at all. Yesterday I blew the condenser down with air and only got dust out of it :D
Use fly screen on the outside of the grill and secure it with cable ties,

the setup I have on the front of big red is replicable on the bull bar of most landies deefer or not... its just 50% shade cloth some bungy cord, some steel bar and nuts/bolts with bodywashers. been in place now for something like 5 years and Ive never had to clean it. Dont ask me how I managed it but it self cleans.

Yeah, I was wishing I'd fitted one before we came through Hay the other night. It was like driving at lightspeed as all the bugs flew towards us. Reminded me of when we were driving the NZ sleet at night last year.

hi disco wa
you can buy a bug screen from arb for your d2 for the princely sum of $90.00 I have one on mine works great arb don't recommend It for turbo 's but I have no dramas with it i think there just protecting there backsides against warranty claims if your cooling systems a bit doggy have attached picture check grill
cheers mark
