Porn Biz Needs Stimulation Amid Limp Economy

Porn Biz Needs Stimulation Amid Limp Economy | NBC Philadelphia (http://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news/business/Porn-Makers-Ask-Congress-for-5B-Bailout.html)

First it was the banking industry, then the automakers. Will the adult entertainment industry be next? Hustler magazine (http://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/topics'topic=Hustler+Magazine+Inc.) publisher Larry Flynt (http://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/topics'topic=Larry+Flynt) and "Girls Gone Wild" chief Joe Francis (http://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/topics'topic=Joe+Francis) announced Wednesday that they have sent a joint request to Congress asking for a $5 billion federal bailout to help the adult entertainment industry weather difficult financial times.
The duo contend that while the industry is still viable, the sagging economy has had an impact.
"People are too depressed to be sexually active," Flynt said. "This is very unhealthy as a nation. Americans can do without cars and such but they cannot do without sex."
According to Flynt and Francis, adult DVD sales and rentals have decreased by 22 percent in the past year, and viewers are increasingly turning to the Internet for adult entertainment.
Francis said the money for the $13 billion industry would be "just to see us through hard times."
"Congress seems willing to help shore up our nation's most important businesses," he said. "We feel we deserve the same consideration. In difficult economic times, Americans turn to entertainment for relief. More and more, the kind of entertainment they turn to is adult entertainment."
Francis and Flynt claim that about half of all Internet users visit adult-entertainment sites.
"With all this economic misery and people losing all that money, sex is the farthest thing from their mind," Flynt said. "It's time for Congress to rejuvenate the sexual appetite of America (http://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/topics'topic=United+States). The only way they can do this is by supporting the adult industry and doing it quickly."

A legitimate request I'll concede!:cool::cool:

I support the request:):) after all, I am sure the gay whale saving fraternity will ask eventually as well!

Ralph

Disclaimer: I, in no way wish to incite any opinions about sexuality - homo, hetro, andro or other. I am simply using a well known and accepted saying in the Australian lexicon pertaining to gay whales.

Hmmmm ... the US of A apparently has the highest rate of sex crimes & serial killers in the world, which is apparently directly linked to pornography. (According to top psychiatrics). Will be interesting to see how the Government play this one!

I've recently read 3 books on the subject:

Joel Norris - Serial Killers
A New Century of Sex Killers a Classic Study of Sex Crime - Brian Marriner
Deviant - Harold Schechter

I also read another newly released one (3 weeks ago), written by a pyschiatric, but can't for the life of me find it, it was very good too, written by a woman whose first case was the notorious serial killer Macek - I think it was called "My Life Among Serial Killers", but I can't remember the author's name.

I'm not advocating the pros or cons of pornography, but I'm interested to see how this turns out! :)

Clinton administration.... maybe... I think he appreciates fine porn.... well thats what Monica says.

Lil Bush administration.... I doubt, but then again it is Gyorg dubbya Boosh (his spelling, not mine!) so anything is possible.

Obama.... No.... I doubt that guy has even seen porn, let alone will spend national money on it.

I've heard that the porn industry is likely to be successful in it's bid for government funding -

provided they use complete and gramatically correct sentences in their productions.

I thought that there isn't a shortage of porn, just that it's all moved to the internet, so no wonder the magazines are going down.

Guess they're trying to have it both ways.

Oh well, bit cheeky, but sometimes you have to suck it and see...

Of course, experts can link anything they want to anything, esspecially American experts.......or American Christian belt experts that write books that make big claims like that.

Have a look to see if they are all Americans.

The other thing is, why are you reading these books?

According to top Land Rover enthusiasts, reading novels about serial killers leads to Pornography!

Yea, I agree - experts can link just about anything to anything! Especially if it suits their agenda!

The books I quoted a just a few of the books I've read on the subject. I mentioned them as they are a few examples of writers who have had some experience regarding the subject, that is to say, they are have worked in criminology or forensics & are seeking to find answers, rather than just writing to sensationalise the crimes. I'm currently reading a book called "Why They Kill", written by a criminologist.

And yes, I think they're all American authors.

And I'm reading the books because I'm a demented individual with severe psychological problems!:eek::eek: (Just because I drive a Land Rover doesn't make me sane!) :D:D:D

Of course, I COULD be reading all these books for another reason ...:p:p Could explain my skull collection. :eek2:

Fancy coming four wheel driving one weekend ... ?????:twisted:

No worries, You and Mrs Mc will get along fine, she reads books like that as well.

My reading is generally limited to tech manuals, magazines and the forum, after that I cant be bothered with a book that is ment to be non fiction which is more full of fiction than a book of fairy tales.

Good to know! :D

A lot of them are very accurate you know. I always read the court transcripts when I can get them to check details!

As for tech manuals: :bangin: I have enough trouble navigating the Series III manual (much to Tony's amusement!)
