Do you have a 'Mud' or similar dash or pod. If you do, is there anything you would change or add to the design if you had the chance to redesign them, or is the basic design and layout good as it is.
They seem to be a popular product, but considering the price of them from the UK, it would be interesting to see if something similar could be made in Aus.

Cheers, Murray

i haven't really done much with mine, everytime i think about running something new to the pod it means removing the dash

i am about to install the clock and low water level buzzer along with a few extra wires for future bits and pieces

I brought and fitted both myself. They are abit dear but worth it in my opinion they look original and if set out well look better than original dash.
if someone could tell me how to post 3mb files i would gladly post a pic

I also have one waiting to get fitted. If I had a choice I would make them narrower.

Hadofly's dash looks fantastic , but it looks to me like there is a bit of "Tigging Luminum" is involved .

It would cost more to get made than buying a mud one.It is a very good looking pod though. Pat

hi,

I dont have a Mud Stuff Dash but i have a Scorpion racing one, In my opinon i thing the Scorpin one is a well planned out Dash with an area for switchs eg lockers, spottes, pre-cut gauge holes and radio/uhf slot and i also have two 12vlot sockets in the square recesses. I also think its a better built unit with a metal backing plate behined the plastic face that allows for better and stronger mounting. I found it very easy to install and also easy access when putting new addition into it. I brought mine in aus from rover craft so didnt have to worry about the cost to much. I can post up a pic of the finish product tomorrow.

How did the MUD dash go with fitting the radio there. Did it feel strong enough to take corrugations etc.?

I would buy one if they were cheaper (and when I convert to a defender dash).

For pwople wanting to mount guages - it would be nice if there were a number of sections angled towards the driver. I.e. like this, only the other way!

I just installed the Mud central console in Rustic
The console do not fit properly with the factory AC in place. Some cutting is required on the bottom of the console to be able to fit it properly.
I made holes for 2 volt meter gauges ( one for the main and the other for the aux battery) and one hole for the oil pressure gauge.
The switches are one for the spot lights, one for the fog lights and one for the spot light on the rear.
At the bottom I fitted the engine saver alarm.
I am planning to fit a UHF radio and stereo with usb port in the future in the central panel.
I relocated the GPS to made it legal in Qld. Was fitted on the windscreen with the suction cup provided.

Hi All,

I purchased both the Mud Centre Console and the dash top Pod late last year. I was fortunate enough to be able to have a family member courier them back from the UK for me but they were still pretty expensive. I'm in NZ so the NZD (otherwise known as the "Pacific Ruble") makes everything out of the UK very expensive.

Both items are well made, the instructions are great and I found the team at Mud great to deal with. The centre console in particular is quite a substantial peice of plastic molding and is very much up to the task.

The centre console fitted really well although I haven't as yet fitted the dash top Pod. Once I offered it up on the dash, it looked like it would obstruct quite a bit of the drivers vision. To be honest, with a bit of thought on the layout of the centre console there's plenty of instrument real estate without the addition of the Pod as well so I'm not sure I'll end up using it.

I also imported a number of the ARB style switches from Mud as well as the mounting plates and surrounds that go with them. They look great and make a very professional looking job.

I've been very pleased with the Mud items and would recommend them even given the huge expense.

Cheers, LandieMan

I was fortunate enough to get Leeds to buy & deliver 3 Mud Consoles when he journeyed to the antipodes last year.

Mine went in, the other two owners still have it on a to-do list.

In retrospect, I wouldn't bother with one again. I didn't want to cut my dash, and so factoring in what could go where, and with how much clearance and then getting it all to fit was very time consuming. It also limits the drivers air vent considerably.

Add the cost of the unit, the cost of all the switches you want, and the gauges you'll be tempted to fit, and the time to do all this, and I think that for the time & dollar value, you could put a lot more on your Defender.

It's a nice item, and it works well, and if I'd wanted to cut into my dash, I suppose I could have had a more straighforward time with it. But I think that a lot of Mud Consoles will end up on a to-do list.
