went to start the car today and could not turn the key tryed the spare key same thing. (no the steering was not locked) is this just another common problem with these vehicles and how many more are there that I am likley to encounter
had this vehicle 8 to 9 weeks already had to change the fuel regulator, change the starter motor auto trans appears a bit suspect the starter motor I wonder if it will last 6 months the way things are going
I dare not drive it more than 10 k's from my house as that is about as far as I am prepared to walk think I will put the kids bike in the back for a spare

If the key would not physically turn in the lock, then it's probably just sticking wafers in the lock barrel.
Try a bit of graphite powder first but you'll probably need to remove the lock assy so a locksmith can strip it down to clean it right up.

Thorby,
Not a common fault with them, as said graphite may help.
Looking at your list of issues.. what sort of service history did the vehicle have before you purchased it?...
Might be a bit hard for you to see at the moment, but these are awesome vehicles... IF they are serviced and maintained correctly... (that means by someone that actually knows what they are doing)... if not you are right you will have lots and lots of trouble I'm sorry to say..
If your sus on the trans, get it serviced sooner rather than later - could make all the difference..

I was looking for a bit advise as to if I need to replace the whole barrell and key and if the key and barrell had a common fault, it seemed strange that it worked fine yesterday and locked up today
yes I did check the service history prior to purchase but have never been able to contact the previous owner
sorry about the rant but this thing is peeing me off

just wait till it does something important for you....
like getting your pregnant wife to hospital past a bogged mitsoyatasan..
using a childs plastic hammer and a gunners tube of gprahite powder spray a little graphite into the lock tap lightly with the plastic hammer the blow off with a compressed air gun.
worked for me on fozzy.
but to be fair fozzy's probabley about 30 years older than your truck.

Hi Thorby,
The barrel in my D2 plays up now and again. Squirt a bit of graphite powder into it and then work the key in and out of the barrel. In respect to your Landy's other faults, all vehicles develop faults and maybe the previous owner knew that they were disposing of the car so were reluctant to spend any money on it. Hang in there and it will be a love story with a rough start.
Cheers,
Anthony.
