The experiment has started. 50 litres of 50/50 used filtered clean canola plus pump diesel in my 300Tdi Disco. Tank empty to start experiment. First impressions are that bottom end pick up is quicker, less turbo lag and appears to make a bit more power. After about an hour of stop/start round town driving I did notice a stumble around 3000rpm. This could be a function of the more viscous fuel mix compared to pump diesel. Allow revs to drop down and still making power. Next 50l will be 25/75 oil to diesel and see if that fixes the stumble. Early run but does feel better....and no glycerol to dispose of:D

Please keep up the info as I am thinking of the same thing. No mess to clean up or chem's to store.:)
Thanks

fit yourself a couple of windings of heater hose around the fuel filter thats up the front and then plumb that in to the existing heater lines.
bet it helps cure the stumble at 3000 rpm ish.

Day 3. My stumble is still there. More pronounced than before and doesn't like reving even near 3000 Checked filter for any goo present and still clean. Hey, This diesel I like....it primes itself:D
Blknight.aus, will try that idea. My uncle mentioned this at the start to try and fit up some way of heating the fuel.
The bad bit is that initial kick isn't there anymore. Will try that idea of heating the fuel and report back. Mind you, once the engine is running and especially today(ambient37C) I would've thought the engine bay would supply enough heat to do this function.
I am hoping I haven't overpressured the injector pump. I have a small leak coming from the throttle shaft. Cannot say I noticed it before so hope I haven't hurt it in the rash idea of saving money.
Some other symptoms- free reving at around 3000 to 3500 stumble and blue smoke (unburnt diesel)

I fear I have contaminated my fuel tank. Pulled out the pick-up and found a gum nut in the pot where the pickup sits. Just the right size to block the pickup. Cleaned out what I could see and then refitted everything. Vehicle ran OK until I pulled up for a feed. Come back out and the poor thing wouldn't even get enough hurbs to climb a gentle slope. Looks like I am draining the tank blowing the lines and replacing/cleaning fuel filter. I need to do this to eliminate that part of the system. I just hope I haven't damaged the lift pump with crud. I am buggered, I made sure I kept the stuff clean but not to be...the evidence is there before me. It cannot possibly be the fuel. Starts OK and then goes a bit then starts to not make power.
Need to get this squared away and start again. Not a good advertisment.

if it makes you feel any better....
when I started messing with WVO I had to strip down the fuel sytem on the guinea pig 6 times before I even got close to working out what I needed to do..
heres a hint I was in townsville at the time.
I wound up fitting a thermo fan and setting it to 92 deg, I ran a line from the cooling system 3 times round the filter then all the way down to the tank along the fuel line and back a long the return line.
25/75 was about as far as I could go with the guinea pig but the donk thats in fozzy now has run on 100% wvo with nothing more than basic dewatering and filtering. The original setup for the donk thats now in fozzy had the fuel lines following the exhuast, the fuel tank insulated on 5 sides with a heater element placed under the tank.
if your up brissy way feel free to come get an eyeball at fozzy.

Progress report. Cleaned up the fuel lines from filter back to bowl inside tank.
The operation worked. I found I had more seed particles gunked up the line. Handy use of a hand pump at lift pump end had the fuel lines cleaned out pretty spectacularly. (Good thing everything was vinyl covered in the back) I think I know how they got there, in my haste I didn't check the cleanliness of the extention on the funnel. Funnel was clean and didn't even look at the extention...my bad.
In haste to eradicate problems I now have a mix of 3:1 diesel:wvo(whole veggie oil).
Will see how this tank runs out. Presently, there in no difference to pump fuel.
