I just heard that all the leading cars in the Dakar Rally are powered by diesel.

There must be a message in that.

Not only Dakar. Diesels have won at least the last three Le Mans 24 Hours.....being Audis and Peugeots. I fact they are looking at changing the rules for Le Mans, to give petrol engined vehicles a chance.

Yes they are. The first time that Mitsubishi have used diesel and a 4 turbo design as well.

and this surprises you?
ALL the research money in the last 5 years has gone to the dark side,,

and while the performance results have been outstanding,,
remember these are RACE engines,, 5000kays (or 24 hours) throw it away.

Not what you guys have diesels for,,,

Buggy racing with a plastic body but damn good to watch.

Great to see the enviromentally concious teams are doing well in their diesels unlike those stinky gas guzzer petrol crap heaps :p

There is also a 200 series cruiser on Bio I heard last night which is still running.

Im not surprised it's still running because of the Bio, more because it's a cruiser.

Maybe they have fallen on the secrate to keeping one alive :D

Over the Xmas hols I watched the race to Dakar by Charlie Borman, the same bloke in the long way round and down.

The whole lot of the people involved are just completely nuts but it looks like a great event to be a part of atleat once in your life :p

I watched the Dakar and very disappointing coverage. But I suppose it was "live". Would be good to see a full special say one on the buggies on the trucks one on the bikes etc.

Did see a Defender one knight and though it came off the road it seemed to be going OK.

Diesels have been the go in Europe for years. That's why they race them. Translates into sales.

Don't know about using Bio in a 200 ! With the dramas they have had with oil consumption and ECU problems, I reckon that is asking for trouble. I would not use Bio in any modern diesel unless the manufacturer specifically approved it's use. Wonder what Mr Toyota has to say about it ?
