87 rangie spluttering and cutting out

Hi all i just bought a 87 rangie efi and it ran good for a week now its spluttering and cutting out on the hwy and having the occasional monumental backfire it starts real easy but it now runs rough at idle and occasionally hunts....i am suspecting the ECU or airflow meeter any info would be appreciated. Going out on a limb here, But could it also be the fuel pump on its last legs? as i had the same things happen to my zook and thats what my problem was :)

i thought that myself for a tick but its still getting fuel when it cuts out (losing spark) as this is the only way i can see it backfiring the way it did it loosened the exhaust it blew that hard!:o

Start with the basic's.New leads,plugs,fuel filter etc.At worst probably ignition module getting hot because it's on it's last legs,basic's first. Pat
