Hello this is our first time here and after much hunting on the net I have come to this site hoping some brilliant person maybe able to help our poor baby get fixed we a 92 disco 3.5 ltr V8, it starts to splutter when it's driving we have changed all the leads and spark plugs hoping it would be something simple for our back yard mechanic(hubby) but that didn't work there was some gunk around the distributor cap, we don't know? If anyone has any clues please that would be fantastic and hubby can go back to driving his beast and give me back my car.

Regards Mudzydisco

Blocked fuel filter or maybe low pressure from the pump.

Does the splutter vary with load or engine speed? For example, can you rev through the splutter at all?

Thank You Scouse,
It 1st started spluttering at open road speed or climbing steep hills, now it just splutters all the time even through the revs? No trouble with starting and it doesn't stall, tons of spark on plugs.

It could be something like the air flow meter but it might pay to have the fuel pressure checked first.

If you haven't replaced the fuel filter recently, replace it (or at least remove it & see if it's blocked).

Check to see if the fuel lines are blocked check the filter and also check the fuel pump. Id say its a fuel issue and most prob the fuel pump.

Burning a bit of oil?! ;)
check if it isn't a clogged fuel line filter or a dieing fuel pump :)

Black is unburnt fuel
blue is oil,
most common when you back off after a time under load--
