Whats the go with Vacuum Pump?

I have a BAD oil leak coming from the vacuum pump on my TDI. I am unsure if it is coming from where it bolts on to the engine or at the end of the actual pump.

Tomorrow I want to remove it and put a new gasket on where it bolts on to the block.

Is there any procedure that I should know of before I remove it?

Is it normal for them to leak at the end where the "cap" is rivetted on??

I know Zero about thwm so any help is muchly welcommed!!

its not that uncommon but its not as regular as say oil changes.

people have had varying success with rebuilding them and replacing the rivits with tapped in machine screws.

Hi

There isnt a kit as far as Im aware, just get a new gasket for the block, drill out the pop rivets clean up both surface getting rid of all burs, then re-seal using some ultra blue or locktite flange sealant. I used bolts and nyloc nuts, I had to grind one side of the head of the bolt to get them to fit properly. I have done this 2 both of my 300's now and it works fine, better than paying 400 bucks for a new one:D

funny I was warned about rebuilding them aparently at my garage people that brought rebuilt vacuum pumps were seeing failure rates as quick as 12months.

I brought my'n new from the Uk half the price of buying one in oz including postage. but that was about 2 years or so ago now I think

Hey DB, I have been offered Genuine WABCO or aftermarket as an option. The price varies considerably but I use the WABCO genuine ones as I HATE the thought of warranty work etc.:(
