will a gearbox/tranfer case out of a 85 classic fit into a 86 model /5 speed gearbox

I would expect it to bolt straight in.

Things like handbrake linkage and mounting changed over different years, but I think you should be ok.

the handbrake is the same essentially the old one has linkages and the newer one has cables using the bits off a 86 transfer case i fitted it all to a 85 transfer case i had to undo the adjustment on the transfer case to get it all to fit then readjust to get a propper handbrake :D good luck
