Factory fitted gadgets - are they worth it?

Just in the process of finalising my order for a new Disco SE. Trying to decide whether to shell out for the Technology Pack. Does anyone, especially in Australia, have an opinion on whether it is worth the extra and how is the performance of the Sat Nav? Also wondering if they new iPod connectivity module that is installed in the glove box works well with the iPhone 3G. I've seen a couple of posts on this topic but keen for a response from Australian users. Really looking forward to upgrading from my Disco 2 to the new motor though will be sad to see the old one go - a really reliable vehicle.

Can't help with the D3 info, but you're right to be worried about the iPhone connection. Both the iPhone 3G and the iPod Touch 2nd Generation will not charge off any of the older connecters. You really need to check this out as the unit will almost certainly play, but I'd be inclined to favour it not charging.

Hopefully someone's already got the combination and can confirm what its like.

I wouldn't bother with the Sat Nav/DVD or any of that, put the money towards the active rear diff instead and 17" rims and tyres for better offroad tyre selection and you have your original set of rims and tyres for onroad.

Buy an after market GPS.

SatNav - You'd need to know how much the updates for the maps cost - If you have to buy them through LandRover it might cost a fair bit.

I heard new maps for the Prados cost $400 through Toyota :eek:

You might be better forgetting the factory GPS option, and buying a top spec aftermarket Tom Tom ( $400) or Hema Navigator, ( $1000 )which gives you much more flexibility. Can swap these between cars also.

Well I have finally taken delivery of my 09 D3. The Sat Nav is excellent by the way as is the Audio Connectivity Module. Highly recommended!
