Well, a quick tutorial on how to lift a D2 with SLS, using the 4wd Intelligence kit.

So take a std D2:

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2009/01/684.jpg

Remove the ignition key and open the drivers door.

Jack up and remove front wheels. Let axle drop to lowest point.

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2009/01/685.jpg

Now undo the bolts that hold the shock in at the base (13mm)

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2009/01/686.jpg

Undo 4 nuts holding Turret in: (13mm)

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2009/01/687.jpg

Lift out turret and shock assembly ( bit fiddly as need 2 people to free up any snags:

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2009/01/688.jpg

Undo the bolt that holds the brake lines in (just for ease really (13mm))

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2009/01/689.jpg

Remove spring.

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2009/01/690.jpg

Place in new spring. may (will) need compressors or a big lever.

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2009/01/691.jpg

To remove the turret and shock on the drivers side you will need to unclip the header tank:

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2009/01/692.jpg

There is also an wiring loom that clips to it so unclip that too.

Remove shocks from turrets (18mm) and fit new one.

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2009/01/693.jpg

lower in turret and shock ( a second person makes this a lot easier. )

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2009/01/694.jpg

Nip up all the bolts.

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2009/01/695.jpg

Do the same for the other side, remembering to clip the loom in to the turret and refit the header tank.

Once thats done, you can head to the back....

So remove the wheels

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2009/01/696.jpg

These are the links that contorl the height sensors

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2009/01/697.jpg

This what makes the SLS cars seem harder to lift.

Place the provided extender in between the arm and the link. Bolt up so it is in line

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2009/01/698.jpg

Now you need to fit the bracket to drop the brake hoses, so unbolt it:

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2009/01/699.jpg

Fit bracket, ensuring bolt heads are to the inside:

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2009/01/700.jpg

Remember, same for both sides!!

Now, remove the cover for the compressor:

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2009/01/701.jpg

This is what you will see: (see notes in red) remove highlighted ones, Remeber to put them back in once the bags are removed, but do them up by hand to start with and then very gently with a spanner

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2009/01/702.jpg

This will let down the airbags. Once that has done Twist the base of the bag 90 degrees and lift it up:

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2009/01/703.jpg

These are the lift blocks:

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2009/01/704.jpg

Bolt them in place:

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2009/01/705.jpg

Once they are fitted, refit the bags (the little holes should be at the front and rear):

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2009/01/706.jpg

Remove shock (18mm)

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2009/01/707.jpg

Fit new shock:

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2009/01/708.jpg

Now ensure al brake lines are tidy and not rubbing. We covered them with some conduit:

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2009/01/709.jpg

Now let car down and go round and tighten up all the bolts.

Shut drivers door, and start car. Car pumps up and everything works (hopefully!)

Must say the 4wd intelligence kit is very good.

Thanks Pete, I've never seen the SLS done before.

When I do the fronts I dont remove the turret, just drop everything down and then out.

Cool, we found that Stevos car seemed quite stiff and it wouldnt really drop enough (We did get the originals out but the lifted ones wouldnt go back)

Nice and tidy. Won't bugger up SRS or geometry to much. I like it. :)
I guess once all the Rangies are dead I will have to look into a D2 as are the last live axle real Luxo Landie made:(

Pre installataion, when you pressed the button inside to raise the rear airbags 2inches there was enough brakeline; however, now with the kit and the airbags fully raised that additional 2inches, are the brake lines long enough and are they long enough at full lift and full articulation?

When mick (cal415) fitted the same kit a few years back now to his old D2 i made him some longer spacers for the sensors made it lift just a tad higher in the rear and yep it was a great set up was a shame he had to let it go its a great set up D2 :cool::cool:

Hi Pete,
on the 4x4 intel website, they say extended bump stops included in the kit. I note you dont have them. Do you need them?
How is your handling now?

Cheers

You can see in the pics the front tailshaft hitting the front chassis crossmember. If you un-bolt this the axle moves a lot lower and the springs can be easily pushed into place - watch you dont stretch the brake lines though!

Dave

You can use your ratchet tie down straps to compress the springs also. One each side of the spring and compress enough to fit in.

Hi
I am doing the same lift next week except with king springs and Bilstein’s. How did you go with the maxis 265 tyres do they foul the gaurds? trying to decide on 245 or 265, I would like to go 265 if i can get away without cutting the gaurds

David Hey David, nope no fouling of guards or cutting required. Fit just fine,
