Does anyone have any experience with Boge steering dampers? Are they any good?

Well..in response to my own thread, OE steering dampers on Td5 Defenders were Boge, so the answer is 'lots of you'.
I just bought one for my 130. As some of you will recall my Bilstein steering damper is driving me nuts (and trying to kill me). It's not very old but I can't stand it any more so I've got the Boge one to replace it. I know it won't last as long as the Billie but it was cheap enough. The steering damper on my Td5 110 gave me four years and 100000km of service, and if I need to replace it every four years it's still cheap.

Wally,
How about Boge shock absorbers do you have them as well?

I run twin (front and rear) Boges on our Rangy. Never had problems and are very well priced if I detonate one on rocks etc. Steering is perfect.

No, funny thing is after thirteen years, as far as I'm aware it's still on its original shocks and they seem fine. Most of my driving these days is sealed roads. Maybe they're stuffed and I just don't know it, but I won't replace them unless I have good reason to.

Depending on where you're buying your shocks and dampers there's two types of Boge damper. OEM branded Boge dampers are very good and in my experience are the best. I can't vouch for the aftermarket ones though.
As for shocks the best riding Land Rovers I have driven have all used Koni shocks (if you're willing to outlay the cash).

I killed a rear Boge on the Stezlecki Track.

They cannot really handle corrugations for hundreds of ks.

According to Graeme cooper the only shocks that can are Billies.

I fitted Billies on his recommendation and they have been perfect on my recent trip to Darwin via the Savannah Way and back down the Oodnadatta.

So even though Boges give the best ride, my pick is Billies.

You know I resisted getting Bilsteins for about 20years, as I reckoned they were a rip off . Used OME, TJM, Boges, Konis but none as all round impressive as Bilsteins.
As far as steering dampers are concerned , if the steering is all AOK with not too much lift, I think Boges are fine and I have one. I am still a bit concerned about the reported pull caused by Bilstein gas pressure.

And that's why I'm getting rid of mine.
