Just got myself a series one - here it is and ready for the rebuild. Im looking at doing a simple cheap rebuild not a complete one. so thought would share a pic with you. its not bad, got it started and drives. re doing the seats at present bought some vinyl from shops & painted seat backs as a starter. got some foam lying around and now the hard task of sewing the thing together. the roof was taken off as it was not original and rivetted on. hood sticks removed for now. water blasted some. needs more cleaning. bull bar, side bars and a rear bar removed all non original.

looks like a great landy you have there. Are you going to respray it or leave the weathered original paint with loads of character thats hard to come by?

Thanks folks - but can someone tell me which lights on the rear are original. have removed rear bar, but suspect all lights are incorrect for 1955 86 inch. there should be no blinker or reverse?, and what about that towbar original or not? trying to remove all non original items. the rear brake lights not sure? pls advise. cheers

None of the lights are original - where the square red light and white light at the top are you should have the expensive pork pie lights - see the nearby thread on them - you can see what they look like.
You series 1 did not have blinkers and the number plate light is build into the pork pie - however some did have a seperate number plate light on the tail gate.

Hi Shamirj,
Thats a great find, i got a 55 model aswell about 3 years ago. i had to strip it down to the chassi as it was in a bad state. i had to repair the front, bellhousing, and gearbox cross members. also found some cracks along the chassi where the bead welds run along the edges of the chassi rails. The Bulkhead rotted at the top and on the sides i replaced it with a 2nd hand unit. it has been Holdenised but i dont care as you cant have everything origional these days, otherwise you start counting rivets :-)
I was going to put it all back together and leave the body as is, but decided at the time to to a full resto while everything was off the vehicle. Only reason i did this because the bloke i bought it off owned it for 40 years, and wished to sell it to someone who would restore it. so i did exactly that.
heres some pics the day i got it and some progress shots. ill add some more pictures later in a seperate post.
its nice sometimes to leave them as they are because they got character. i havent finished mine yet but its almost there probably another 6 months on it it will be ready.
all the best with your new ride cheers, Chris.

What Garry said re the lights. The drop plate on the rear crossmember is the proper towing point, but that bar has to go. Nice find by the way.
