G'day all
Bought my first Land Rover last November, a series II Disco. I just love it and have major plans to turn it into my ultimate four wheel drive. Today I've experienced my first flat tyre on her, however its causing more issues than I'd like to admit. I've got these plastic wheel nut covers over all wheel nuts bar the locking nut (well there's one on there but I can simply pull that one off). These other covers aren't budging. The wheel brace supplied with the Disco fits over these covers but I can't get them to turn. I'm thinking, just like the locking nut cover, that these covers should come off revealing the nut beneath. Maybe I'm missing something really obvious, maybe I'm missing something I need to get them off? Any ideas? Also, I'll be needing new tyres soon and just after anyones tried and true sugestions for a tyre suitable for half on road/half off road.
Cheers everyone

No, the cover normally doesn't come off the wheel nut. Especially if they've been rattled on, they need to be jarred to get them off. I just put the factory wheel brace on it so that the arm comes out horizontal and jar it hard with my foot to break the grip on the nut. If you don't jar it the wheelbrace can bend.

I pleased with my Eldorados. I would not normally have touched them with a long stick, as I had never heard of them. They are made in the Cooper factory.

Welcome to AULRO China!!!!

Only the lock nut cover comes off... the others you just fit the wheel brace over and undo... And theyre metal, not plastic if they are genuine wheels / nuts...

So yeah! Really obvious!!.... But can catch people out....
The plastic "Tube" in the tool kit is to remove the cover on the lock nut. Slide it down over the cover and pull back, cover should come off if not stuck by mud etc....

Then just undo the others using the supplied wheel brace.

As for tyres, search here is your friend... First choice is do you want to stay standard or go larger...? Then How large?

This will lead itself into suspension lifts, bullbars, longer shock options etc. etc....

I'd HIGHLY recommend doing some serious reading in the tech section of this board!

hi china,
the wheel nut covers don't come off,,,,,,the wheel brace goes straight over them for removal,,,,,,,,,be careful with the anti-theft nut though,,,the wheel nut "key" in the wheel brace 'kit' in your vehicle is made of rather soft metal, and your need to keep things 'square' and 'even' whilst carefully getting the anti-theft lock nut to budge !!
I had to get a new one when a tyre repair shop employee was too rough and careless with it. Removing the anti-theft nut on each wheel and replacing them with original equipment wheel nuts sourced from a wrecker,,,,,when going away camping or fourwheel drive weekends and holidays ensures that all wheelnuts can be easily removed when 'murphys law' steps in at an inopportune time . When you put the silver dust cover back onto the anti-theft nut, make sure you give it a slight twist so that it catches well onto the wheel-nut,,,,they sometimes get flicked off when driving, if not put back on securely.

yep replaced all of my lock nuts with standard ones,,

if you put new tyres on,,
make sure you can undo the nuts with YOUR wheelbrace before leaving the shop---;)
