That bloody Disco of Harrys is bomb-proof, like the Aquarangie was  Bend it, break it, straighten it and it just keep on going the bloody thing.

I miss the Aquarangie, 4 RRC's later I still haven't filled the void but I'm working on it

Hmmm, Dont ask him about the Heater Core.:o

Sorry Harry :wasntme:

Who needs a heater in QLD :wasntme:. The Aquarangie never had a functioning heater, didn't stop it (was re-routed when I bought it but never botherd to repair it). The air con worked a treat though which is more of a concern esp. if you're like me who suffers from heat stroke easily :(

Now I an getting sad talking about the Aquarangie, need to change the bloody subject :BigCry::BigCry::BigCry: Oh yes, like the tyres Harry and it looks the part

ok, firstly,
thank you or the nice comments.
now the tyres are lt285/75 x 16 maxxis bighorns,
car is on a two inch spring lift and we are still to see if the 'guard work is adequate.
sliders are a copy of justins, thanks justin, with some differences, home grown with gary's help [well he did them, i just made mine look nice!, thanks gary]
and trav, the last set were from josh and were a test to see what fits under a d1.
apart from them being a bit old the size was perfect for a d1, but when i got new tyres they were a bit wider and stuffed all my plans.
however i now have 9 inches under the front diff and ten under the rear.
so that is pretty good for a d1.

[shut up phillipe!, 35's don't count]

Good size, did you use your std Disco rims? Nothing wrong with that, I ran the Silverstones on them on ol' bluey (now named BOB by it's new owner) although it was a 10 point turn to get arond some tight tracks as the turning circle was ****ed :eek::eek::eek:

I had a 40mm body lift and @35mm spring lift on that Rangie, rubbed on full compression but on 99% of trails it was fine.

Looking very good Harry. The d1 wont be the same and have to agree - there wont be anything stopping you now.;)

Before the tyres and sliders your d1 seemed to go every where now with a real set of tyres - who needs 35 ;):p:p:p

Way to go Harry

So true.. don't need 35's.. totally over-rated

But I will say otherwise at the end of the year when I get some 35" Claws on mine:twisted:

Justin

Valid point  $300 odd for a 35 inch Maxxis Trepadore V a $380 for a Goodyear MT/R 33 inch, bloody painful esp when you loose 3 in 6 m onths (2 were burnt with the Vog, the other sliced on a concrete drain at Sundown :mad:)

Overall tyres have gone up across the board, the Federals that Shepp run are the cheapest of the decent tyre followed by the Silverstone MT117 sport which I have gone back to. Much happer wallet-wise even at $280 a tyre now new although I bought Grimaces old set :D

think i'm being ripped on price... i was quoted a week ago $460 each for a 35" trepador... but can get the 117 sport for $240 so going that way... i could always use a touch extra length

from our good friends at aus tyre... didn't specify radial but they don't have the comp one in 35's so assuming so

$470    That's a rip-off for any tyre IMO.

The Silverstones as I have said are best value for money tyre around and you can't go too wrong. Not the sort of thing to run on a tourer but for a weekend bush basher (like my dunga) they do the job and the noise isn't too bad (anything is better than a Simex ET or JT )

Can't go past the Baja Claws.. no experience with other brands for a basis of comparison but still..better than your Silverstones Trav:p

Might be better but mine are cheaper and I'm the $$$ saved buys a couple of catons of beer :p

I also like the fact they're a bloody tall 33 compared to most on the market but they do wear quicker but who wears out a set of MT's anyway (they become useless past half worn).

Did you talk to Brett as I paid around the $300 mark for mine. 35 x 12.5 x 15 Radial Trepadors. $460 is way off the mark.

well phillipe,
we entered the dirt road section and hit a few big holes, the front bottomed out and after a while i just had to stop to see the damage - none,

Great stuff harry, the car looks awesome with those tyres  and again great job on the guards :D

The benefit of running those tyres on standard offset rims is it wil probably only be hitting the top and inside of the wheel arch, rather then the back and guards, much nicer on both the tyres and panels :) The down side is probably lack of turning circle  Looking forward to seeing it in action at Crystal Creek

I had the issue on the blue beast running the Silverstones on std Disco steel rims, would touch the outside of the spring mount on compression at the front and rub inside the guard on the rear (woould have a shiny spot in the guard after a while :D). But the Mt117 sports are a pretty wide tyre for a 285 may I add.

I would run the std offset again if I had to but on alloys, those Silverstones are bloody heavy with steel rims to boot

well, as the speedo reads 90 kph for 100 gps, the revs are down.
it does need a down change to get up and go, but on a 110 kph road she is running in the sweet spot.
off road, seems to be no difference, but it is an auto, so that compensates a bit, still to really do track work with serious mates,
had a few crimping moments on our trip, but didn't get to think about it too much.
still to work out fuel eco, nah, that won't be the word, fuel usage, as the trip had some hiccups in the fuel world.
standard unleaded, two stroke, fuelling problems, dirt roads, sand roads, air con on, battery going flat, what else.
flex on the fork lift is good, and road jounces to bottom out under heavy load seem to be ok, but the rear will still rub the mud flap holders, front doesn't seem to hit at all.

It's a V8, who gives a toss about fuel economy

Autos with 33's is better than a manual off-road, learned that the hard way on the extreme creek run at Ormeau a couple of weeks ago (could be the driver too ).

From my own experiance you can never replicate true off road flex. Trust me I've tried;)
