View Full Version : Replace the Driveshafts complete or just the boots?

My lifted Freebie has gone from flinging a little grease from the R/H inner CV to having the boot fail altogether. Not really sure if this is due to the more severe duty the boots have to do with the lift or that it was inevitable and the lift just brought it along a little.

So to my question.
Should I just go and grab a 2nd hand/reco driveshaft or pull the shaft down myself and replace the boots?

My thoughts were to grab another shaft, wack that in then replace the boots on the original waiting for the inevitable failure of the L/H side.

Any thoughts?

If the the CV itself seems OK (mine have been clicking for over 80K) and you can get a boot - I would just repack and reboot.

However if the CV is suspect - do the whole thing.

The CVs are fine but both inner and outer boots need replacement.
As I understand the left and right shafts are the same (?) I thought for a few extra dollars and very little extra effort I could have a complete spare shaft sitting ready to go for when the next boot fails or is damaged.

Allford have a complete shaft for $220, haven't checked the price of new boots as yet, will do so on Monday.
