Next Tuesday very early in the morning I am driving down 250 km down to British Offroad to fit fuel tank number 4 in 9 months :(
After testing it and all Ok the RR with new Truetrac and special axels at the rear will be on the market for $ 5000.00
I have the "Rustic" the Defender now and one have to go :(

Why is that? What is the problem that the fuel tanks need replacing? :(

Just leak :( they rust from inside and cannot be repair with POR 15 because the bottom gard does not allow to reach the hole to block it first before treat the tank inside.

Does that mean you are getting a lot of fuel with water in it? or condensation maybe?

What a bugger!! :(

No, the 1987/88 RR have the problem that many come with the factory with faulty tanks. They were replaced under warranty but many owners did not know about that. I have the "luck to pick 3 so far :(

FWIW if its a rangie you might be able to get the plastic tank from a D1 to fit. butcher off the old tank, clean up the cradle and then put the disco tank on top of that.

Bottom guard can be cut of with a chisel it is only spot welded on. Did one a couple of years ago came off ok and looked like we could have gas welded holes up & guard back but owner plumped for plastic tank from stealer so am sure you can do either
