View Full Version : What Colour is Yours, Why?

Hi there again....

I am interested to know what coloured paint job is on your deefer and if you specifically wanted the colour on the vehicle you eventually bought. Sometimes, the colour you may want is just not available, or the one off the show room floor happens to sparkle and we eventually take whatever is there...

White  seems to be the traditional Deefer colour, or Chawton White as it is in the Puma range. For those that have metallic colours, have you been satisfied with the finish? What are the down sides to the metallic. I can speak from my own experience in the bush that a solid white has been much easier to touch up.

If you had another crack at the colour, would you change it?

The Tdi is white (can't remember which variant) but is really stained by the bauxite dust.

The Puma, well we had a choice of Chawton White or Zermatt Silver. Having owned a silver Disco before it was easy to choose this colour as it doesn't show, dirt, scratches or blemishes nearly as much as a lot of other colours.

If I had a choice (and I could get it) then Tangiers Orange of the G4 Challenge vehicles would be my pick.

Mine is white. When you buy second hand, you usually have to take what you can get. Maybe all cab/chassis were white.

However I wouldn't change it. It is cooler than any other colour. That is speaking literally of course; it reflects the heat better.

As you say, it is a lot easier to match if repairs or touch up are required.

Anyway, I just like the look of it. It sort of looks utilitarian and unpretentious.

Big red is red.... (actually its kind of a metallic burgandy)

I like it but the missus likes the ghost grey and we've seen on kicking around the albury area thats a sort of lightning blue that she likes as well...

colour doesnt concern me too much, most of the vehicles I drive are the same drab green colour.

well my 90 started of life as white.

But we rebuilt it and sprayed it a Land Rover colour Monte Carlo Blue

Our 110 we bought second hand and did not have alot of choice on colour . But my wife did not want a white one . I think our colour is Brooklyn Green (well that is what land rover used to call this flat green)

That G4 Disco's been for sale for over a week. Wish I knew how much. Shame it's not a G4 Defender.

Mine is blue, but as vnx205 says, when you buy second hand, it is pretty much the luck of the draw what colour you end up with. White is by far the most practical colour - cooler and safer, and I would have preferred white, but at least the roof is white.

White.

Thinking of removing the defender stripes/decals for a total white look.

High visibility, both types of cool and no choice.

Ocean Blue. Bought used so limited choice. However, we do like it as we have not seen many Td5 Defenders this colour.

By coincidence, the Disco it replaced was also blue.

We bought second hand, and ours is white.

Missus loves black and so do I but white is so much easier to look after.

But I do like the Monte Carlo Blue thats on reads90, if we were to respray that would be on the top of my list before black :D.

I wanted a dark colour body as I already had a white 130, but I didn't want a dark roof because of the heat factor, so I ordered my 110 in dark green with the classic (I think) white roof look.

I got the windows tinted by the dealer, and it has proved to be as cool as an all white version.

Mine was originally camo or olive drab. I changed it to Zambezi silver because it was a different colour to white and it was nearly as cool as white. People love the colour. I looks good I think.

However, my first choice now would be flat camo or olive drab - original and flat paint is easy to patch.

My second choice would be white as cool and easy to match with second hand bits. Also, highly visible.

I rubbed mine until it turned blue.

It's true, it's true.

You can see where it used to be white on the bonnet.

Mine is black.Have no choice with the SVX. It looks fantastic when clean, but shows every bit of dirt.
If we hadn't got the SVX I would have chosen white.

Mate, hate to tell you this but judging from the picture it needs more than the paint touching up:Rolling:

Stornoway Grey. Part of the deal I had with my domestic gestapo was that she got to choose the colour...

I've often heard it said, you only ever get a black car... once.

My current Defender is White. If I had a choice I would definitely have gone Blue again but sadly that wasnt the case. A good 3 door was rare enough in all of Oz, but one 2 hours drive away with low ks was enough convincing for me.

My old one was blue

I like to inconspicuously stand out from the crowd; if that makes sense. For example 90% of Tdi Defenders are white, not many are Blue; and a blue Defender doesnt stand out like dogs balls :D

Do not drive a defender, but for years have prefered white, or a light silver. Hop in a dark car that has been left parked in the sun, and hop in a white one and you will clearly see the difference.

Mine is white too. I find the pretty ones look funny with the rivits and spot welds, plus the panels aren't ever flat so shinny looks funny (or crap). Although the red 130 looks good.

Ours is a none too subtle yellow.... half by choice, as the daughter is crazy about anything yellow, so that helped sway us towards this one... (irrational reasoning i know!)

The yellow was a recent respray by the previous owner, as he was using it for a business that required that colour (including the god-awful red windows you can just see below - we quickly replaced them with dark tint) so it fortunately was in very good nick. Had been white originally (of course!).

The only catch with the yellow is the conspicuousness, although I have seen at least two others around Melbourne the same colour (and one Discovery in the same yellow/red scheme, which looked a right hoot...)

Thats a nice looking SeriesIII in Yellow Devil next to you there Mrs Ho Har. OK it's not a deefer but I couldn't resist. Why yellow? because with the Game you could have any colour you liked as long as it was Yellow Devil.

Cheers, Mick.
