Hey guys. In a bit of strife.
Just about to leave the country music festival at Tamworth.
Hooked up the trailer went to take off and can't get my puma out of first gear. Was driving around in it . backed up to the trailer, hooked it up and when i took off i couldn't/cant get it out of first gear.
Any ideas or can someone tell me the 24 hour assist number.
Thanks heaps.
Eck

Have a search on the Defender2 (http://www.Defender2.net) forum. There's a number of gearbox issues reported there (mostly UK), nothing about 1st gear though. See if anything sounds like yours.

Jst had a bit of a scroll through this forum.
nothing really the same. A few stuck in referse tho. Mines stuck in first but seems like it's in neutral. Was thinking about lifting 2 wheels off the ground incase there was some form of wind up. Would this be a pointless exercise?

Have you tried moving the diff lock lever? If its got a neutral feeling to it you may have jumped the CDL into neutral. I doubt its the case though as it sounds more like an actual gearbox issue.
I notice on Defender2 there was this posting: Defender2 - View topic - 2007 GEARBOX ISSUES (http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic141.html) and whilst its reverse gear it sounds similar.

Glad you've at least got the ride in the truck. Like I said, please post what the out come is. Could help someone else in the future. Hopefully it's not too serious.

Dealers pulled all the inspection covers, etc off and could not find a problem. The problem was not in any of the linkages or anything they could see. Dealer is replacing the gearbox over the next few days. The faulty gearbox will be sent back to landrover so they can pull it right down to find the problem.I get a brandnew gearbox but i doubt if they will tell me exactly what was wrong with the "old" one which is a bit of a bugger. will try and get the info anyway and post it up. The "old" gearbox only has 15k on it.

Got my Puma back today.
Has a brand new gearbox in it.
Dealer is sending it back to landrover.
Dealer also said that landrover will pull the box apart but won't tell them what they found or why it jammed in 1st.
Still a mystery to me.Have to say tho landrover assist was excellent to deal with and provided me with hire car/work truck for the duration.

I found out yesterday that yours isn't the only one.

My old work had the same problem with a 50km old demonstrator.

That's good news!
Any improvement, missing noises, clunks or anything with the new gearbox?

I've only driven it about 70km so far and that was up the highway but have to admit it seems a little smoother than the original box and a little tighter.Doesn't seem to give that little cluck as you change gears. time will tell tho over the next few months as it beds in.
Interesting that there have been a few others as the dealer reckoned that was the first one that had come back to Landrover.
Is a bugger tho that they wont find out what was wrong.
