Hi All

I have a bit of a problem with the BCU in my Disco D2.

When the car is off, there is a continual idle current of 0.35amps being drawn. (when the car is not started for a couple of days, it kills the battery.)

When fuse 11 in the engine bay fuse-box is removed (abs/bcu fuse) the current disapears and does not come back when the fuse is plugged in again untill the car is turned on again.

It appears that the bcu is not turning itself off when the ignition is turned off.

Any ideas??

Thks

Short somewhere on the wires to the BCU. Could also be something to do with the alarm system. Have you checked the earth points?

Hi,

I makes no difference if the alarm is armed or not (it is there either way), and if it was a short in the wiring i'd assume that the mystery current would come back when the fuse is re-inserted.

I'll still re-check the earthing though just in case.....

Cheers

Just a thought. Is it actually the BCU? Could it be the ABS?

I don't know what to test here, but the ABS is probably the easiest unit to unplug from the wiring harness. That way you will eliminate which unit.

Also try locking the car with the key, not the fob button. This doesn't activate the volumetric sensors, which could also be the problem if one's faulty.

Could be this tho,

and there is a recall for this problem (battery drain) in early Disco 2's

its to do with battery drain caused by the BCU still enabling the electic window time out circuit to be powered even after the ignition is turned off.

Simple way to check, sit in the car and close all doors and windows, then turn the igniton ON, then turn the igniton OFF and operate the windows, they should become inoperative after 45 secs, if you can still operate them after that , then your vehicle needs to be re-configured.

Its a recall, so if it needs it, its free of charge at the dealers and it needs Testbook to do it ;)

Hi,

I've tried unplugging the ABS module, it makes no difference unfortunately.

Also it happens whether the car is locked (alarm armed) or not.

Tried the window thing, unfortunately that was not it also. What was the recall? I have a list of the ones done to this car.

P.S, it is a 2001 model.

Has anyone else had this?

is there anymore info on that recall for the battery drain issue?

Thanks................

where and how are you measuring the load drain ?. i have a 2001 DII Td5 with dual batteries and i am sure i am losing some battery power somewhere while its sitting doing nothing. each day at startup i am getting a 14.3v charge according to nanocom from the alternator for about 10-15 mins before it drops down to about 13.2v constant. both batteries have been load tested so its not a batt fault.

Why don't you take it to a good Auto Electrician and let him test it properly. There is always a current drain with the electronics etc. How much is too much? - You will have to ask the specialist.

could the draw be the clock......and the flattening battery just a coincidence?

or is that draw way too high

Would have thought the clock current would be in the order of uA at the very most.

Just looked up fuse 11 in RAVE. Seems to be related to SLABs rather than the BCU.
