Well I am doing some work to my Defender and had a Gymkhana to run at the farm. Had to do a recce so our local dealer loaned me a new Disco 3 so I could check access to the farm as it has been raining quite a lot here. Drove same and enjoyed the run.

On return dealer says, "would you like the Defender for the weekend"?
"My Oath" prefixed with Ken, says I.

The vehicle drives like a car. Noise? What noise? Very little noise! Mrs TwoUp says to me, "we can talk" and for good or bad I had to agree.

At 110 it just cruised, I didn't select sixth untill a 100Kmh! Over bumps etc on dirt it did not rattle, It didn't leak, no clunks or bumps. Oh and the air-con worked a treat. So too the wireless. I am not used to music though.

So on highway it is good. How about in the rough stuff?

Have to be fair to it, it was unladen and no lockers. It is running standard tyres at the ex-dealer presure. I did not change anything as I did not have a compressor etc.

Ok I managed to bog it, but a few others bogged in the same place. We had driven it a couple of times and this was a one more prior to finishing for the day. (pic attached)

I did a comparo to what I would do in my defender on some tracks. One jump up I did as I would in mine and had no trouble, second low and away you go. I returned to the same place and tried the anti-stall in low first. It went ok for a while untill there was no traction, so then I accelerated slowly and the vehicle just pulled up. I used the anti stall quite a bit in the low slow stuff and although very slow it was easy and in those little situations the traction control kicked in and onward we went. Had plenty of persons wanting to be passenger with me.

Overall I reckon it is good. By far better quality build than mine.

I should not have done it. Hmmmph, had to give it back today:(

Note all driving done in controlled situations..........

That's why I am always a bit wary of demonstraters (as in slightly used car, that is). ;)

You left it to 100kph to get into 6th! You can get into 6th at 75 to 80 kph going up hill!

Glad you enjoyed it. The traction control really does work, doesn't it:D:D

The above is a link to a vidio of the anti-stall on jump up. As I was driving I didn't see of course but it does look impressive to me at least.

I guess owners of this vehicle would know. It moved easily. I didn't use full throttle.

The fuel economy of the 2.4 is a little worse than the Td5.

I just can't get worse than 10km per litre. On my trip around Oz last year - including driving across 2 deserts in 2nd gear with the transmission locked and 800kg on board including roofrack - I got 9.8l/100km.

So what does a TD5 do? :p
