Saw this picture of an Aus LR with what appears to be either a wing mounted air cleaner or a very fancy snorkel. My question is:

Could such a type of 'snorkel' be fabricated to fit to a S2a 2.25 diesel? For my use, this would assist is preventing dust inhalation and also serve as a snorkel.

Fairly standard sort of aircleaner...usually fitted in extreme dust conditions...notice there are two fuel points on the left side as well...other than that it is a really dirty landrover:D

I think it might be OEM - Originally Equipped Mud.

They are excellent in dusty environments and are used as OEM on Caterpillar equipment.

Donaldson cleaners are used on most heavy plant and heavy trucks. Replacement parts in Caterpillar packaging are made by Donaldson.

Thanks for all the responses. I was thinking of using my existing oil bath air cleaner as is, and this Donaldson type shell as a different type of snorkel. Perhaps adding a paper element air cleaner to it. Will look different and I think, quite cool!

at one point in time it was not uncommon to mount these above the windscreen on the front of the roof rack - a bit like what a certain mr rooth has done on his milo tin...

G'day Folks :)

Aah! what a blast from the past:) that looks like a well fitted out 2a camper conversion gunsports, has long range tank (probably one on the otherside as well, second Left hand tank probably water, 240 power socket in the pillar, side steps and both driving &fog lights behind a well thoughtout brush bar, looks to be well travelled too, probably been set up in the 60's or 70's and still going strong:) aircleaner setup is standard donaldson complete with precleaner, this was most common on the guards of Landcruisers from the 60's through to 90's only sensable way to deal with B*lldust in outback quantities.:)
