Hello Inc,

Many of us have our "own" threads to revist and post updates. (This is almost like a weblog (or 'blog)

<<insert potentially stupid questions here>>

Should we be using the blog instead?

Are the categories you speak of, to group our blogs in similar categories, or perhaps regions or are they sub categories of each persons blog?

Perhaps you could give us an example.

So can I take it that a Blog is like an ongoing diary (maybe better termed a record) on various subjects not necessarily linked to daily entries.

But all those categories are already covered in the main area already

You'l end up with so many layers of places to go ....you'l need a ciber 4x4 to get the heck & navigate your way out of here  :(

i guess i am a bit old fashioned,
but as said above,
isn't most of this already done, or accessable in normal channels, or is the'blog' a separate personal diary or personal identity story?
could this be covered by a link to it in each users signature or username?
i don't see why it is necessary. each member of the site can post a link to such in his own sig, eg- barrys blog.
does this use up more internet allocation, or is that not a worry?

unless it gives good hits via google I too think we are trying to reinvent the wheel.

people already blog about their cars kinds in the members rides...look at discowhites over 10,000 hits.
other hobbies get talked about in the parking lot
and we have specific hobbies such as photography and fishing....and people talk about their trips in the trip reports section

I would say if we are going to have blogs.....maybe make them about other hobbies of people on here or another common interest other than our cars If people say that gardening is a national hobbie something like that.....or discussing the best brew (plucked that one out of the sky but you get what I mean)

maybe do a poll

I know this is an old thread but I only just noticed the BLOGs section and felt that this discussion wasn't really resolved so I thought I'd throw in my 22cents worth incl GST.

BLOG is short for Web Log and is really a personal diary where one person makes the main entries. Others might comment on entries but BLOGS are centred around a specific person whereas a forum is about a topic.

BLOGS should be used by people who have an ongoing story to tell where there is a reasonable expectation that this is interesting to others. Often a BLOG has specific theme and I am guessing that the original question about categories was in relation to that.

blknight's Book thread would be a great candidate for a BLOG because people want to read his stories, in large due to his colourful way of expressing himself. Perhaps belongs in a category of "Story Telling"

BCC could have used a BLOG for his great thread titled Employment Opportunity(?) primarily due to him being in a fairly unique and exciting position, plus his family situation is a bit unusual as well. Perhaps in a category of "Lifestyle" or "Interesting Jobs"

P38Rover could have a BLOG dedicated to his history of buying faulty goods. Perhaps in a category of "ARGHHHHHH!!!!!"

Normally someone would limit themselves to one category because most of us are not interesting enough to have one BLOG, let alone two or more:angel:.

Other users then subscribe to BLOGs that they find interesting so that they don't have to keep looking. They are not a replacement for a forum. You would not have a BLOG on politics, that is what forums are for. You might have a category of "Politics" and RonMcGr could have had a BLOG in there, which would be a place for him to express his views for comment.

I have a blog.....:)
It's all about my preparatin for my 'big trip' with a few asides with funny/not so funny bits along the way. It seems to be that others are reading it so I'l keep it going.
Only thing missing so far are comments from readers..... looking at the comments on this thread I now understand why.... no one knows that that is what makes a blog work.
Maybe now they will:D
