View Full Version : TD5 Intercooler Hoses? ...... Power Loss!

I have been doing some homework on Disco 2 TD5 power loss problems & keep coming up with 3 things:
MAF sensor ...... I have yet to clean it.
Seized Waste Gate ...... mine is not seized
Intercooler Hoses ...... Now this is the one that I find quite fascinating, as in several places I have read that the old hoses get soft & can delaminate or 'collapse'.
Surely the intercooler system is subject to postive pressure, in which case the hoses would expand & not collapse?
I would greatly appreciate any input.
Thanks.

the intercooler hoses are laminated, the air pressure gets between the layers causing the collapse, or the pressure escapes through the hose, or the hose expands like a balloon.

Just like when rubber brake hoses expand and cause you to poo ya pants when the brake lever comes back to the bar:o:o (motorcycle)
I have silicon hoses on order from TD5Alive

Turbo modulator valve, small black unit just under turbo outlet hose, has an electrical connection to it and from memory 3 small hose connections.
Check those for cracks or leaks.
If it has failed in the electrical circuit or the hoses have failed, it will cause surging/loss of power around 2,500-3000 RPM.

How much do they charge and have you placed the order yet? I think I need some too, the hose between the inter and the inlet manifold is hissing.

to give you an idea about the MAF.
I had my TD5 stage one tuned with an ECU remap, when we took it for the first test drive the 0-60mph time was about 18 sec's. the tune had taken about 2 seconds off the 20second time.
The Man said it were not right and that the MAF is not reading correctly, he reckoned it should read about 55 and he gussed it was reading about 35, Sure enough when he put it on the testbook computer is was reading 36. When we changed it for a new one, it read 55, and the 0-60 time went down to 14 seconds..!
Dont know what the units are but he was right on the button.
This was JE engineering in the UK who did the ethanol V8 for the Bowler...
the guy knew his stuff..!!!
