Hi Guys , I've been collecting old oil bottles that used to be in the servo's . The ones with the tin tops . Like Castrol , Golden Fleece , Atlantic , Ampol and so on . just wondering if anyone else does this or if anyone has a spare one sitting in the shed they want to part with . Please let me know . Thanks :)

G'day Fusion :)

I have a couple of plastic "Treloar" branded ones, blue neck/funnel in 500ml and 1 litre, from the late 70's early 80's from memory, think they may have ex Altantic/Caltex or Ampol, now Caltex :) and I would be lost without them, and my gearbox oil hyperdermic, which are in regular use.:)

These oil bottles often turn up at garage sales and sunday markets, where the are reasonably priced, before they are put into swap meets/antique shops with bul***** prices

I had a few golden fleece tins from a garage cleanout. But I sold them for a packet on eBay a few months back:(

Automobiliana collectors pay ridiculous prices for bottles, cans, signage etc. I went to an auction of an old freehold servo a while back and the biggest ticket item was the very tatty hand operated glass bowl bowser out behind the workshop, circa early 1950's. Removal costs to the purchaser. Went for $3500 plus auctioneer's premium and in need of complete restoration. Funny thing is most of these collectors don't collect or restore collectable cars, just the servo items and many have elaborate displays. To each his own, I suppose. I think they have missed the point. I would rather spend the big bickies on a classic car to drive.
