Hi guys
search has been little help, I am looking for the opinions from owners of the 2 door classic Range Rover.
I am about to lunge into ownrship of a mid 70's 2 door RRC and would like some advice on what specifically to look for.
Where do they rot/rust, what is the weakest link/s in the drive train etc etc
Search function only brings up topics on the latter 4 door models and P38's but I am after info specifically about the 2 door ones.
I have some basic mechanical knowledge so I am confident of spotting a dud and I know that what ever I buy, there will be an inherent risk of it needing some work. You dont buy a 30 year old car that isnt prone to some failings and needing constant maintenance, but thats one of the joys of owning something like this, the glory of actually knowing your car and being able to fix it ;)
cheers

Hi Shorty;
I can't help with 2 door , but my 4-door Rangie had rust around passenger and driver side footwells , suppose if they come with sunroof option there would have plenty rust around the sunroof.:(

They generally rot the behind the wheel arch and under battery in the engine bay, under the doors and the usual spots for the lot ie upper and lower tailgate. Expect the bushes to be shot too unless they have allready been changed

Check around the front door hinges as they rust out here, Front body mounts and the inside of the A pillar at the very bottom.Check the sills too.
My truck is 1974 2 door called Mudhog, it's off the road while I do rust repairs.
Cheers
Brett
PS: I wouldn't swap it for anything else!!:D

places for rust
the sills
front foot wells
the rear cross member near the petrol tank
the inner wheel arches at the front
upper and lower tailgate
under the spare wheel
Good thing with the 2 doors all the structural parts just unbolt and if you have the time are relatively easy to rebuild
Another thing to check is the firewall cracking near the body mount on the chasis
If you want a project 2 door from Brisbane let me know:wasntme:
And if anyone is looking for any of these parts I have some

okay guys
bought this little beauty this afternoon. It is a 77 with standard running gear. It has dual batteries, snorkel, front tube bar, 31/10.5x15's muddies on 15x7 sunnies (comes with original wheels and tyres as well), 2 inch suspension lift and 1 inch body lift, front and rear diff protectors, steering arm protector and 11 months rego :D....umm thats all I can think of so far.
the body is pretty much rust free with a few minor dents. Interior is tidy and well looked after.
Pick it up late next week so will post some more pics then.
thanks for the tips on where to look for rust, the chassis and body is showing no signs of rust or fatigue in the mentioned spots so thanks again ;)

Hi Shorty,
I'd be very surprised if the front of the rear crossmember is rot free. You really need to drop the fuel tank and have a look. The fuel tanks rust at the back next to the crossmember because dirt and stones get caught in there.

thanks guys. I dont think I paid too much, actually think I got a bargain but only time will tell.
It needs a few things like shockies, a new air ram and a good clean up, but other than that it will be great off road out of the box :D

Just a quick drive by Mark. Looks like a good starting point, lots of goodies on it. I sort of know of the previous owner and he maintained it well, had it for a long time too, did have a capstan winch up front prior to the tube bar. Looks like current owner used it more off road, but still looks fine.
